Will Smith slaps Chris Rock

Check out how Rock handled himself after being physically attacked by one of the biggest names in Hollywood during a completely unscripted moment. He doesn't flinch. He doesn't hit back, and he doesn't apologize either. He actually laughs at how ridiculous the moment was—"Will Smith just slapped the **** out of me" is now one of the most quotable lines in Oscars history—and then he just…gets on with the show. He seems unintimidated and unflappable.

Chris Rock won the Oscars slap fight. He won it by refusing to escalate the violence and by refusing to ask an authority figure to step in on his behalf—there was no call for "security" and he appears not to be pressing charges against Smith.

He stood up and told a (pretty lame) joke that might offend some people. He suffered some consequences for his words. And then he just kept on doing his damn job by announcing the nominees for best documentary.

I feel like they kinda go together because a big part of the narrative is the slap ruins his big night. I don't think that many people are going to forget he won, but the slap will be why so many people remember that he won.

I think you're right for the moment. I also think it'll become where time weights things a lot more towards "Remember when Fresh Prince slapped that dude at The Oscars for making fun of his bald wife?".

It was all staged

Then Chris Rock deserves an Emmy for his post slap reaction as he collected himself to get back on track.

Honestly I think Rock made the joke up on the spot and either didnt know about her condition or didn’t realize it would bother her. He’s better comedian than making a reference to 20+ year old movie. He certainly didn’t think Will was going come up there and slap him.

I couldn’t have lower expectations of good behavior from anyone in Hollywood. Nothing really surprises me from that lot. Many of them are weirdos and kooks. So the situation is kind of comical to me. An over-the-top annual production to hand out awards to emotionally unstable people, like this year’s top honoree, the crazy person in the front who just assaulted the emcee **applause**

I don’t think it was staged. I think Jada is weird and has Will whipped. She’s messed with his mind and warped their kids. His son from his previous relationship is completely normal. His other 2 kids belong in an institution.
Meh..I think its more than that..like Jada is just for show to hide Wills other tastes.. See..he forgot the normal gender roles at the Oscars and had to make it up to "save face"..no pun intended.

They do not condone violence but allow violence without any repercussions by not escorting the violence initiater out immediately.
Then he got a standing ovation!!! Pathetic!

You think the academy got together and voted WS could stay and then the academy directed the audience to give a standing O?

Of course not. Not at all. That is absurd.
I’m not stupid to think that way.

However, I think that someone in charge should have made an executive decision and have had him escorted out.

I don’t think it was scripted, either. It did seem strange that first Will was laughing, but Chris’ reaction seemed very genuine.

It actually helps their careers especially Rock’s
I don't think it does. It was just too clumsy and weird to have been staged. And listen to the slap... it made a thud sound. That wasn't just a harmless finger slap. It landed flush across Rock's face.

It’s amazing to me that an audience with many celebrities that seem to get so easily outraged about words, elected to do the opposite in this case.

Have you ever watched a roast? There’s wayyyy worse things said.

I love roasts. I think it was Anthony Jiselnick made fun of Steve-O saying everybody wished he died instead of Ryan Dunn, but I can't think of that many things off the top of my head that were said at a roast that are worse than making fun of someone with a medical condition that millions of women are totally insecure about. Might as well make fun of mastectomy boobs and people with ileostomy bags. You can do that at a roast, it's totally fair. It's just too far, but that's kind of the point of a real roast.

I hear the people in the room were pretty upset, but who actually knows what they thought about it? Just because they clapped for Smith's performance doesn't mean they weren't outraged.

As a woman I can assure you that the fear of losing our hair and losing our breasts are at opposite ends of the spectrum. What an absurd comparison.

That's the most interesting thing to happen at the Oscar's in decades. Maybe we can get a chair shot next year. That works get me watching again.
