Worley is one tough sonofabutch

He has a long way to go still. How many of his incompletions were because of him throwing lawn darts or aiming for invisible receivers?

Go to another thread or start your damn own one if you're gonna continue to, despite his good play yesterday, endlessly bash the kid. Why dont you title it "Justin Worley F-ing Sucks and I hate him". Good grief.

Let the fans who actually support the kid, our QB who just led the team to a win over a ranked team for the first time in 4 years, have just 1 thread to post that we're for and proud of the kid.

I am not sure that I would be bold enough to hang this win on Worley. I think that our OL (especially second half), our defense, North and Palardy get the credit for this win. I appreciate Worley's resilience and his grit in playing through a bruised (or worse) thumb injury...but he was mediocre as usual. I am not complaining...I am happy we have him for now...but I would not give HIM the win.

So the near perfect throws to North, the big scramble, managing the plays/pass protections and no ints didn't do it for you? Yeah, everybody EXCEPT the guy that touches the ball on offense every single play deserves credit for the win.

Not sure if you are referring to my comments....but my point is that we so often jump to hang a win on the QB and forget other stand out players. This game was a team effort...but if anyone deserves the ball it's Palardy, North...and the collective Defense. There really is no way around that. I am fine with Worley, glad he is a Vol...just being honest about his performance.

That being said...6 games is practically a lifetime in the SEC. I can think of a handful of QB's that have done better with less starts.

I can think of a lot more who have done a lot worse.

You don't hold your breath every single time he is at the line? Are you so confident in his ability that you believe that he will complete the pass and/or convert? I don't. I cross my fingers and say a prayer every time we are on offense. Not because I am a negavol. Because I know the stats. I am proud of how we played collectively as a TEAM. I am thrilled with no interceptions, I like that he is proving to be a good leader...but I am only slightly impressed with Worely and the rest of the offense. We can not win like that every week. We have to make plays consistently on both sides of the ball. Anyway, I don't like the negativity (and I don't like that I am seemingly contributing to it) so I am done with this discussion. Proud of my Vols...however we won!

Its both, but your timing and trust inclination is correct. Hopefully, more trust is there and more passes can be made with confidence as to where the wr is going to break.
Young wrs are an issue just to get them lined up, much less them learning a new system, much less learning the checks, much less reading a route, all while not going at full, instinctive speed because of the information overhaul and lack of confidence. That leads to poor timing of course.

Our recievers do not come back to the ball either. They wait for it to come to them. This caused at least 4 passes to be knocked down.

Hummm... I see it that North bailed him out on 2 long passes...one was not even close to catchable, but North showed some serious vertical and one handed skills.

Worley did not turn a corner....and become our saving grace. No way. But across the board this team has shown improvement and toughness and that is what won this game.

the coach the last 3 years made everybody frustrated so a lot of people, including me at times, would take out frustration on other posters and arguments ensued. I hold no grudges.
As far as him keeping it, imo, it's because he has always been a pocket passer and never even scrambled, even in HS. He's 21 now, so breaking habits he's had since he started playing qb a decade ago are hard to do. Plus, it's his first go at the read option and I'm pretty sure he is scared Clowney or another nfl DE is going to knock his ass out when he reads one poorly, which will happen if he ran too many.

Yea, no grudges here.

Good times are on the horizon for this program. Something we can all be happy about.

Yeah, you hate to talk about bad things after a loss, but Worley just wasn't very good. He misses way too many easy, stick throws that an SEC QB just has to be able to make.

At times he was downright dreadful.

North showed yesterday why recruiting matters. He essentially pulled a game out for us. The D had a lot to do with it also, no question about it but North made plays in a low scoring defensive battle.

I'd like to know a % of posters that have the slightest idea of what it takes to be a qb. I also assume some watch no other football because there are terrible passes and plays by almost every qb in every football game played this weekend.

Evidently they didn't watch the opposing QB Shaw.

Thanks for your post Mrs Worley.

Unclassy post.

These are kids. They deserve our support. Don't think any of them are going out there not trying to do their best. To even become a D1, QB is a great accomplishment. Gatorade Player of the Year. What were you doing in HS, MR Monday Morning QB? Worley's a great kid. Probably will not be playing on Sunday's, but nevertheless giving his all.

It's good to root for a team that has a QB who knows the offense, is coachable, is respected by his teammates, doesn't turn the ball over, and makes a positive play at the end of a game against a good opponent to get the WIN.

Worley shows up and works hard every day, doesn't complain, hasn't been in the news for being a knucklehead and gets the most out of his ability.

AMEN. In life, that's all you can ask for.

I would hire him in a heartbeat as an employee. Good life skills playing out in front of us.

1. Reword one of your sentences.

2. I really hope you didn't mean Taylor.

3. Worley has a looong way to go to be considered an upgrade from Bray.

To the other poster, had Bray had this defense they never would've lost a game last year.

I think we would be doing pretty well if Worley had CP, Hunter, Rodgers and Rivera.

This! He stepped up in the pocket and took the shot on those long balls down field. He reminds me of both Clausens. He's a servicible college qb. He's not gonna beat you with his legs and why should he? He keeps us in games by making the smart play and not turning it over which is a huge improvement over Tyler Bray choke jobs.

for you to say that Casey Clausen was 'serviceable' is absurd. He was 34-10 as a starting QB for the Vols...He started 44 of the 47 games he played in., including starting as a freshman in some very unfriendly locales..he was 14-1 on the road in the SEC....and he gave his all every time he went on the filed.

Heck even comparing Rick to Casey is a gross error...IMHO

If Tyler bray had this defense last year we would have won the sec. You are delusional if you think Worley is better than bray. The quarterback gets entirely to much credit when it comes to wins and losses. Bray didn't deserve all the credit for the loses last year, just as Worley doesn't deserve alot of credit for this win. Palardy ,north, and the defense won this game.

Casey clausen was an average quarterback that played on some extremely talented football teams. Trent Dilfer ....

That name (Rick Clausen) should be banned from this board

LSU agrees...transfers from there and then beats them with an amazing come back. Also beat Texas A&M in the cotton bowl game and was MVP. So what's your problem with him exactly?

Worley helps us in a way that Manning and Bray didn't; his passing is so average we are not so one dimensional.

I have a feeling Worley's having some problems with his throwing shoulder. He is able to make the deep throws much easier than the ones that need a little zip. Noticed him rolling his shoulder after some of those "lawn dart" dirt throws yesterday. I've also noticed that any throw that requires him to follow through or throw across his body is very inaccurate.

Speaking as someone who has alot of personal experience with over-hand throwing and shoulder problems, you'd much rather throw a 60 yard bomb on an arc than an 8 yard crossing route with zip. Just a guess, but judging by body language and the quality of his throws, I'd bet I'm right.

My apologies for the tone of my post. We're both Vol fans, both want the best for the program. Just frustrated on behalf of a kid who's improving and working his ass off for his team and university.

He did something Bray never did. Win a meaningful game

I like this post, but we will win many more games if he will keep the football more often to keep the defense guessing who has the rock. Almost every time, he hands it off to the running back.

He is still inconsistent with his accuracy. Hopefully, that is something that improves but if not he is still capable of being a solid QB. He just needs to be consistent with his accuracy if he is going to take that next step. He should get credit for taking one big step so far, he is not playing scared anymore. That has been the reason for his current improvement, IMO. He is standing in the pocket and making throws knowing he is going to get hit. He even ran a couple of times knowing he might get hit. That is a vast improvement from the first couple games.
