Would Nike/ UA sponsorship help us with recruits?

Yeah, that free recruiting trip sure impressed Aaron Murray to go to Florida....

Oh wait....

"Athens Elite NIKE Camp upon us
JC Shurburtt
Recruiting Editor

Talk about it in Football Recruiting Board
Every year, one of the most talent-laden NIKE Camps is the Athens camp. Held on the campus of the University of Georgia, top prospects from throughout the Southeast typically head to the camp to compete against some of the top talent in the region."

Notice the regional aspect! Being that Murray is from Tampa, the Gainesville Camp was in his region! And last I checked... Murray's Georgia Bulldogs IS a NIKE school!
Bill's point is both simple and logical! It's just another tool we could use

Doesn't Boston College wear Adidas? Last time I checked they were losing to Vandy.

Yeah and Nike Clemson lost to Adidas Nebraska...drawing a correlation between brand name and team success is kind of hard to do...

Let's put it this way, how high up on your list of concerns is jersey brand right before the season starts? I'm willing to bet it isn't even thought about...negligible

Just tell me what type of equipment does every BCS champion but us wear.

I'll agree with that. I'm honestly somewhat anti-Nike.

I run in Asics, Brooks and/or Sauconys and prefer Brooks or Adidas apparel. But I do think having a Nike Camp at UT could do nothing but help. Outside of that, I don't really care.

the adidas contract is good through at least 2010.

Adidas is signed through June 2010!

But NIKE just signed up the University of Memphis as a NIKE school before their Adidas contract was up!!
And with the Kiffin Family and a BIG 1st season, UT Football would again be a marketable draw to NIKE or UA!

yeah, because Adidas is just starting to make their run into college athletics. You can't win this argument. Nike does not equal "faster".

If anything, I would go with UA. Be the flagship team for the brand, over the likes of TTU, SCar, Maryland, ..etc.

Plus getting in on the UA AA game wouldn't be bad if we could get some UT gear handed out and get in the heads of the kids.

Unlike Bill, I am a HUGE Nike Fan! But I DO NOT think what cleats a program is wearing on Saturdays is going to ultimately help with a Win or a Loss.
My Point is, the SPONSORSHIP/ BRANDING of Universities IS A SELLING POINT TO MOST ATHLETES! Add that to the other benefits a partnership with NIKE/ UA (like camps, etc) would bring to the University of Tennessee. Adidas has little to NO presence in Real Football! Make no dobt about it, CLK is selling UT to all these recruits we keep reading about! And a Jersey or Cleats with a Swoosh on it is a much easier sell than the one with 3 stripes! Just another tool...

There's one thing with UA. I think all the teams they sponsor seem to be only good programs not among the nation's elite.

I wouldn't care otherwise because Addidas has done some nice things for us. Nike is just flashy. They are a bigger company and can provide some things that Addidas can't. With that said the only reason I would want Nike would be for the Nike combines at our campus. It would be great to get those kids on campus all at once. All those S. Carolina kids and N.C. kids along with N. Ga. and W. Tn. getting a chance to see our elite campus and facilities. You can't deny that wouldn't be a perk. On the other hand if Addidas had elite camps at UT then I would say stay with Addidas.

Because UA just started sponsoring teams what, 3 years ago? How many of the elite teams are locked into like 5+ year deals with Nike?

Not my point smarty. But we are the only team to win a BCS championship in equipment other than Nike.

Well then lets swap into UA and become the first team to win it in UA apparel! I know, I'm diggin...just don't think at the end of the day that it matters that much. Nike simply has a ton more college teams under contract.

The nike camp would be cool, but we got TENNESSEE....WILDBOYZ! at the end of the day it's the coaching staff that's gotta get it done

There is NO CORRELATION between brands and the success of the relative schools!!!:nono:

I have to admit I'm biased towards Nike so I probably won't say anything good about the other two. But UA does have nice looking and good feeling gear.

If a kid is letting his decision be swayed based on a swoosh or three stripes, I don't want him.

You've got to view it from the player's standpoint. He may go by the saying "If you look good, then you feel good, if you feel good then you play good". That being said adidas gear just seems heavy when you put it on.

I think if we cut the grass in a criss cross pattern that more recruits would want to play here. Also, I know for a fact players would be more intrigued with us if the concession stands brought back Gulden's brown mustard for the Smokey Dogs.
