Would Nike/ UA sponsorship help us with recruits?

Did'nt some of the guys wear nike a few years ago?
I thought I remembered seeing a team photo and the
swoop was covered with black polish. I'm pretty
sure i read this also.

A friend of mine that was formerly a Grad Asst. said that the reason we keep signing w/ adidas is because they are willing to outfit the entire university and provide more money to coaches and the university administration etc. Nike said it is unwilling to provide uniforms for the entire athletic department. I too really would like to have Nike equipment, I think their sideline gear (sweatshirts, hats, t-shirts, practice gear) are much better and more creative. I think the equipment supplier is about something bigger than UT football, and if we want to have Nike it would be good for the BBall team to start winning some championships along w/ baseball. It seems to me having 107,000 + seeing the swoosh 7 times a year + TV audience is good marketing. As far as everyone wanting UA, they are the ones that really keep messing everyones unis up. Every team that has UA has essentially the same uniform design.

All I know is this, Under Armour gear sucks! My wife works for New Balance corporate and she told me that when Auburn switched from New Balance sponsorship to UA, all of the football players immediately started complaining about UA's cleats and clothes about how they were always falling apart. If you go back and watch Auburn games, you'll see a bunch of Auburn players wearing cleats with tape all over them... That's because they called up New Balance and asked for cleats to replace the UA cleats. They just couldn't show the NB logo's since the school was under contract with UA.

If we switch to anything, which personally I don't care, it should be NIKE.

Did anyone see/hear Tommy Tubberville from the ESPN UA All America game coverage mention MULTIPLE times how Important the on campus summer camps are?!? He said it like 4 times... I while I agree that the level of equipment would be the best under NIKE, but the support/ attention the NIKE combines and camps get is the REAL reason we need a 1st rate equipment partnership.
And most of NIKE's new deals are for the whole university too, just look at the NIKE contract Memphis signed Dec 13th! ( NCAAbbs - Memphis signs all-sports contract with Nike (worth over 11 million) ) And their basketball program is really their ONLY draw! So with the UT football program at the Top again, I'm sure NIKE would have more than 107,000 reasons to sponsor UT!

Because we all know he was such a great recruiter...Same for Hester talking about how great the ACT was. It's a joke.

Just because we get a Nike sponsorship doesn't mean we get a Nike Combine on campus do we?

But we run our own camp IIRC, so we can still get kids to come to it, it's just not a Nationwide Nike Combine thing.

If NB was so great, why is Wyoming probably the most major team they sponsor? UA cleats and like compression gear is nice though, I don't know about the other stuff.

Also, another reason we probably won't switch is because of baseball. If you sign a Nike deal, you have to use their bats, and they're terrible compared with Easton, TPX, DeMarini, ..etc

He was just giving future college hopefuls advice about not waiting until the last minute. You know what I'm saying?

Yeah, I know, but anytime someone makes a 10 on the ACT is giving you advice about it. I mean I understand why he was doing it, but they probably could have found someone better.

Adidas also provides a representative that stays on campus throughout the school year to personally take care of any equipment or apparel issues. I remember hearing that the ADs like that a lot. I question if Nike would be willng to do the same.

i cant think of a team that wears under armour that has any sense of tradition or respect. maybe maryland but everyone else just seems to be the team of cops who got beat up in high school. ex. south carolina, texas tech, USF, Hawaii and so on.

In terms of wyoming i was there last week and NB is their sponsor but i couldnt find anything made by new balance. all their clothing and most jerseys were made by colosseum athletics. they did have new balance shoes that were brown and gold though

Auburn kinda. I don't know, I think it's just because they haven't been around long.

And I think they had socks/gloves that were NB. I don't know about the jerseys though.

..... isn't it a rather peculiar coincidence that Lane takes the UT job and shortly thereafter LA Gear is back in business and they're "still unstoppable".

Nike bats have vastly improved over the past two years or so and aren't nearly as bad as they used to be. DeMarini goes downhill further with bats every day it seems. Of course, Louisville Slugger and Easton are still the class of aluminum bats. TPXs hold up better, but Easton will give a little better pop. Just be prepared to use all 3 warranty opportunities with the Easton.

I think Tennessee needs to sign a deal for Duckhead to make their jerseys and they could wear Sebagos.

You may have a point here... Maybe we're totally barking up the wrong tree! If Mossy Oak or Realtree could put out some uni's & cleats we would be both Invisible to our opponents and Unstoppable!! And this would be truly marketable to most of UT's demographics & fan base!

Jersey sells would sky rocket due to their addition function...Game day & Deer season! Who needs a duel threat QB when we'll have a duel threat Jersey!

The Orange already works great for use during deer season

If UT started wearing camo, I'd leave UT's fan base immediately.

I agree Addidas just isnt viewed buy todays kids as cool. Under Armour is what is in,plus it would benefit the fans to because the apparel Nike or UA makes is better than the plain run of the mill crap Addidas puts out year after year.
