I have also read that nobody connected with Memphis spoke with Pearl or MH. They both can't be true.

Pearl clearly just used the job as leverage to get Hamilton to fork some more money over. This is where my respect for Pearl started to go down hill.

Unfortunately, coaches use the prospects of other jobs to get salary increases all the time. My respect for him started going south with the public statement and pictures of his new home and new wife--"the love of his life" and the total lack of consideration for his children in this event.

But agents and hangers on often push this point. Coaches typically just follow along in resetting their market value.

I think Pearl's circumstances warranted different conduct. No BCS conference would even sniff Pearl before we hired him. If he would just admit that it's business, that's fine. However, he doesn't need to act like he has this concrete, unwavering commitment to UT when he has tried to throw his name into the 'Zona, Indiana, and Memphis jobs, imo.

I get the point, but I'd fire my agent if he didnt prod me to get every potential pay raise out there.

Don't get me wrong, I don't buy BPs loyalty schtick and it frustrates me because Hamilton took a chance on him, but I see where he's coming from. He can't just live under his scarlet A forever.

I've said it a lot: my issues with this staff are on the court. I just don't care much about the off court stuff. If we played on both ends, I'd be glad he's our guy.

My issue is that he even feigns this loyalty schtick. When Tim interviewed at Arizona, he didn't deny it. When Cal talked to NC State, he made no secret of it. When Huggs discussed the West Virginia job after Gale Catlett left, he was up front with everyone. Pearl, on the other hand, sends his minions out to sniff around every decent job that comes open and then has them float fallacious stories about Bruce "removing himself from consideration" after their advances are rebuffed. It's akin to me saying I removed myself from consideration for the Attorney General's job after Obama picked Holder.

Vegas has become the retirement community for hoops coaches. I guarantee I'll have at least three old schoolers come up to me Saturday and ask me some variation of "How's that snitch/snake/jagoff/clown that coaches your bunch doing?" Pearl knows what people in the game think of him. He's just concerned with making sure he can fool the true believers. He knows he can't fool people who know the score.

Yeesh. Bitter retired losers who are not coaching anywhere are still angry at Pearl over taping Deon.

How can someone dislike Dana for being sleazy and love hanging out with all kinds of slimeballs who are angry that cash for players was investigated?

Don't ever snitch! You might make the basketball mafia turn on you...

Also, most of those "retired losers" have resumes that dwarf Pearl's. If he were half as successful as the guys I'll see in the media room at the Orleans Saturday, we'd all be happy.

BPV, I asked my friend from the Big 10 about the Pearl hate specifically and he said that it is related to the taping. He said it all stems from that.

Does Stallings dislike Pearl for being a showboat? Yes absolutely. But dislike is reserved for the people who do not want to see a guy painting his chest. Hatred is still from the old guard.

I would also expect that guys with awesome coaching resumes who worked their tails off to carefully instruct on each phase of basketball want to pull a Bud Dwyer when they see Pearl win using turnovers and alley oop dunks despite running no possessions of well executed halfcourt offense/defense.
