Wow I am suprised about all the negative posters here.

You mean the guy that told everyone he turned down the Memphis job?

Someone let the new york times know that they got the story wrong. Pastner should know. Poor mike hamilton also he was just suckered into thinking that cbp was offered a job he was not...thanks message board insiders

Of course you will provide us with a link to that NYT's story.

I bumped it. I think it is the wolff piece, but it might be in a separate puff of Pastner from NYT. I am watching dexter so I can't track it down now.

The New York Times was the among the sources that gave us John Calipari to NC State and Tim Floyd to Arizona. Both of those were refuted here. Remind me who ended up being right.

I wish one of Pearl's fan club could come up with a new argument. Granted, Jew haters was a new one, but I was hoping for something better than:

He is not Buzz or Wade.
We are a football school.
No tradition.
Who you gonna get?
His "recruits" are not (insert excuse)

Instead, its just the same post, over and over again.

The story you bumped was not the NYT and never mentioned Pearl.

It did nothing to back your claim. Besides that, it was a good read.

You do realize that none of us have ever complained about CBP not winning a NC right? Kinda makes it hard for it to be redundant. Unless they changed the definition of redundant.

Did they change the definition of redundant?

MHF and Steven... I mean Orange423, are not good at providing links to back their claims.

If the link did not carry it is from nov 22 and on page 3 of the article it talks about how before pastner was offered, memphis tried and failed to get cbp.

Bill Self took Tulsa to the elite eight in his third season, with a 32-5 record, after reaching the NCAA tourney the year before. He followed that up with another elite eight appearance in his first season at Ill, and set up the national runner-up team that lost to UNC in 2005.

Thad Matta led Xavier to the elite eight in his third season, after the team had lost in the second round the previous two seasons. In his third season at Ohio State, his team made it to the national championship game.

Jay Wright led Nova to the elite eight in his fifth season after 2 NIT appearances and a sweet sixteen berth.

Nice.

The no National Title complaint is made up. Its not a valid criticism and is not used by any of Pearl's detractors, like the Fan Club makes it out to be.

The main criticisms of Pearl are no half court offense or defense, which leads to poor tournament play. Not being able to recruit a decent point guard is another one. Many don't see the first 1 ever changing with Pearl, and his track record is very poor with the last one. These 2 things, plus with him getting paid as much or more than many Elite coaches, makes for detractors. UT has a completely refurbished 21,000 seat arena, and a brand new Practice Facility. A huge recruiting budget. They also have an easy route to the NCAAs, as the SEC has been very down lately.

If his record and results satisfy you, thats fine, but I like to see a team that looks like they know what they are doing when it comes tournament time.

Lol, I'm trying to figure out how to do the whole LInker thing, can someone give me some help, I swear I'm too dumm to work won of thees compooters.

Why do you think that story has no Author? It seems to be a fluff piece. How much do you stake your reputation on the accuracy of that point?

My reputation? As what? A message board prognosticator? I trust the nyt sports although they do have their jayson blair issues. Are you willing to say you can confirm that the memphis job was not offered to pearl? If that is the case, then tell me why memphis would not deny the story. It cannot look good in what we both think is a "puff" piece to include the fact that pastner was a back up choice right?

I have said in multiple threads btw that I am a big pastner fan so far.

It's pretty telling that even Pearl's personal press secretary Griff won't sign off on the "Memphis offered Bruce their job" story.

Pearl did great things at UWM. He has done good things here. He has phenomenal talent, so I expect more. You think Thad Matta had better talent at Xavier during the years of those tourney runs? No. You think Okie State had better talent than us last year? No. You think George Mason has better talent than our team last year? No. Our players lack motivation apparently and in the half court are the sloppiest bunch of players I have seen on a top 25 team in a while. Who do you think that falls on?
