Wow!!shocked

This isn't the NBA we are talking about. Apples and oranges. You said WNBA coaches make 40,000 to 50,000 a year, so what you want people to believe is that say a coach like Carol Ross will move to L.A., where we all know the cost of living is dirt cheap  and work for 40 thou when she could get a job making 10 times that in college. You think Cooper came to Atlanta for funsies at 40or 50 thou? If you do, then as my grandmother used to say" well bless your little heart". Check your facts dude. They ain't making 40 thousand a year.

Typically players make more than coaches....that is a fact whether you want to admit it or not. The players are the draw. There is no reliable source for coaching salaries but here is an WNBA question using your coach as an example...

i tried to research online and could not really find anything. The only thing i did find was an article that talked about how the WNBA might dip into the College ranks to fill out their vacancies- but the article said they would have to pay.

https://answers.yahoo.com/question/index?qid=20080604091903AAx4idz

They gave the example of Pat Summit who is the most successful college coach in women's college basketball history and she makes $135,000 yr, $210,000 (if you include all her bonuses, incentives, etc.) so to get someone of her caliber you'd have to pay at least that much. Salaries seem to be on the up and up in the WNBA- avg. player several seasons ago made $45,000/yr and that is now up to $55,000 (so not sure what coaches make)... but hope that helps a little bit in your research.

The total compensation due to Auriemma in the contract is $10.86 million, giving him $1.95 million in salary for this year and increasing over time until he earns $2.4 million in the final year of the deal. It includes $400,000 in base salary, with extras added on for speaking and media fees. It also includes a series of performance-based incentives.

I wasn't the one needing help in the research area. The WNBA salaries are not in proportion to other professional leagues. The dispute came when you made the claim that Dawn wouldn't go to the WNBA because she would only make 40 or 50 thousand a year there. I know the coaches in the WNBA make very good money as compared to the players. Pat made more 15 years ago as a consultant to the Mystics than you claim the coaches made. The whole point I'm trying to make is that Dawn would make as much or more in the WNBA than in college. I still think she ends up there. It may take 3 or 4 years but I still think that's what will happen. She may fall in love with USC and decide she wants to retire there but I don't think so. Anyway, I hope Diamond finds a place where she is happy. I just hope the colors she wears are orange and white.

If Candace Parker can be a PF in the SEC with her frame, so can A'ja. Candace had the skills to be a wing, though, but Pat was smart enough to know that the 4 was the best position to take advantage of her athletic ability and skills, and the same is true for Wilson. Unfortunately, A'ja's perimeter skills or nowhere near the level of Parker, as she isn't a good ballhandler nor a good shooter for a wing player, although admittedly she is probably above average for a player of her size.

I just think her playing wing and truly flourishing there is a pipe dream, at least now.

She hasn't even played any college ball yet. Her shooting and ball-handling and passing can be improved. As of now, they are pretty good, not great. She's a 3, she's not going to be the primary ball-handler on the court or anything. She's going to drive, cut, get open from 3 and pull up in the midrange. So she is not as good as Parker or Stewart? So? If she can just be half as good, she can be an All-American. Few if any perimeter players will be able to guard her because she can just shoot over them.

I don't put too much into Cooper visiting USC, I think she has her mind set up on where she will attend. So I don't believe her accompanying DeShields on her visits mean anything. It was decided when she started shooting her show after she de-committed last year. Some said that's when she annouced her committment at the end of the show. Which means she would have had to decide a few months ago on where she is headed for the show to premiere at the end of June.

She didn't commit. She may have almost committed to UT. She may have been feeling UT at that time. But she didn't make it official and she is teenager and teenagers can get excited about something at one minute and get even more excited about something else the next. To me it seems like Diamond and T'ea want to play together and they are still figuring out where they want to do it. Both girls might have initially overlooked the Gamecocks before when they were picked to finish 7th in the SEC before they won the SEC and were a #1 seed and loaded up on top talent in this last recruiting class. Staley is really turning heads now. Her heavy involvement in the US teams doesn't hurt either. I think both our programs are looking pretty good right now to these girls so it will be interesting to see who gets them.

The players in the NBA make many millions while the coaches make 5- 10 million. You are the one that needs to check the facts. Players make much more than coaches in all professional sports. Who don't know that ????You for one !!!!!

well when a tree falls in the forest ... it DOES make a sound.

There is absolutely nothing in the way of indication for anyone to think that coaching in the WNBA is Staley's ultimate dream. Staley has always made it clear that it was her passage from a girl growing up in Philadelphia to where she is now that is her identity - not being just a professional basketball player - and that she wants to help others travel down. Her college career at UVA. Her time representing USA in the Olympics. The best way that she can do that is as close to the beginning as possible, where girls become young women and when they truly develop their opportunities. That's at the college level....

If Staley wanted to coach in the WNBA, she wouldn't have needed to go coach Temple while still playing out her professional career. Staley was already a big name at the professional level of her sport, and the WNBA (or the ABL prior) would be happy to have her be a coach after all the years she was a leader on the floor.

The young women who play in the WNBA are already set in the directions they want to go when they get there. Teams always breakup in the off-season: players goes oversees and play in foreign leagues to supplement income, others get seasonal jobs as asst. coaches or run camps, etc. There's not so much the teaching forum at the pro level like there is as a college coach, and that's what Staley was always looking for. Also, despite the fact that Staley would be a big name and face in WNBA if she chose to go coach there, in college she's developing a sort of rockstar identity while at USC that simply wouldn't exist at the pro level. That is something I'm very sure the player and competitor in her really likes.

No, Dawn isn't looking to go off to the WNBA in "3 or 4" years. That's simply absurd......

I didn't say she had committed. I just said some where saying she committed at the end of the show. I have nothing but respect for your team and coach and if y'all land them then congrats. I just really want Durr. Not that I don't want DeShields and Cooper because I do.

This is one rat's ass, that nobody gives.

Cooper also visited UGA with DD a week ago so I wouldn't read too much into this. Cooper has made multiple visits to TENN.

I would venture to say right now she has no position. It just so happens she went to the school that will let her live out her pipe dream of being a wing. It's basically Vicki Baugh redux, except Pat was never stupid enough to ever think Vicki Baugh would play wing in college.

So she is not as good as Parker or Stewart? So?

This crap has nothing to do with what I posted. But no, FWIW, she is not in Stewart's league, let alone Parker.

Actually, it's very possible Cooper is a silent commit to somewhere. The commitment will supposedly air on her "True Life" thing on MTV, and it's thought it has already been filmed since it airs next month.

We'll find out soon. FWIW I thought Jatarie would've been a Lady Vol based on the frequency of her visits too, and well...

Well, I am sure it will rankle the Vol fans if she picks USC and the TV show comes out and she picks UT. But, the world is funny like that some times. I mean, if Diamond and Te'a go to UT maybe USC will be a front runner for Durr I think we are in good shape with Lambert. Someone is getting some good players either way.

Diamond would bring the most hype to our program which is probably the most important thing for us, which is not so necessary for an established power like UT.
I just wonder about the cost because it is not like Diamond doesn't have her issues. She is good scorer but she can be kind of ball-hoggish.

No, the pipe dream is thinking she can be a post player. She doesn't have the toughness for that and she knows it. She has a smoothness to her game. She is slasher and her shot is a smooth stroke too. I don't care about Baugh or Cooper or Stewart, she is not them. She is A'ja Wilson and no one knows how good she is going to be.

So she is bound by what she said in TV show and she is stuck with it and can't change her mind? Didn't she already change her mind once? I wouldn't count on anything right now. It's a state of flux. If she committed there is still time to do some editing and reshooting of that episode.

News flash for you. Unless you are Dawn, you have no idea what she wants to do in the future. People change and evolve. To call anyone's speculation on the subject as being absurd, is quite frankly absurd.

I think the point they were making is that Dawn tends to gravitate to younger kids with her interest in USA under 18 teams. You are right that people change their focus over time but I really think that would be a long shot at best. You never know though....

It will be interesting to see where DD and TC go. It will also be interesting to see who transfers or takes Tenn off their list, knowing their playtime will be limited. I think they both go to Tenn.

Durr has wanted to go to UCOnn from the start. When Geno received 4 LOIs from this seasons freshman class the Durrs where wondering where Asia would fit in. Apparently UConn coaches reassured them however she hasnt committed anywhere yet. UConn looks set now however the addition of Durr and perhaps Samuelson who top scouts have said has UConn at the top of her list would put UConn over the top again.

Tenn imo has the horses now. DD and TC imo would make them contenders for the FF if they can learn to pass the ball and not dribble so much one on one. Perimeter defense is a must too. With all that height Tenn can afford to play the perimeter knowing they have the shot blockers behind them.

Whether DD and TC choose Tenn or not this is a big year for Tenn telling where they are. The roster says top 4 however the team concept of how to play needs to be team. You have less turnovers when you pass the ball quickly and more turnovers when you lose patience and try to do it all by yourself.

LMFAO. She is 6'5". HTF is it a pipe dream to say a 6'5" player "can" be a post player. GTFOH. The power forward position can mean a lot of different things depending on the coach and their philosophy/system. Nobody is saying Wilson should be a post ... I am saying forward would be best suited for her game.

She doesn't have the toughness for that and she knows it.

And yet, she chose to play for one of the toughest coaches in WBB in one of the toughest (if not THE toughest) league in the country. She better develop that toughness quickly or she is in for a rude awakening.

Yeah shes 6'5, but she is going to be dominated by smaller players because she's a toothpick. She'll get tougher, but toughness is not her game. Her game is her dynamic ability and versatility and she is going to use her height where it will be a better advantage to her which is AWAY from the basket.

Of course she can change her mind. But it would look very poor on her part if she commits to a school on her tv show and when it comes out she says "I'm not really committed anywhere. This isn't really rocket science.

You would be best suited to let it go. Cooper isn't going to SC and sharing time at PG with Cuevas' ball-hoggin' self.

Yeah, 6'5 but she is going to be dominated by smaller players because she's a toothpick.

Ok, where is she going to play on defense? She's a toothpick so she can't guard posts but she doesn't have the lateral quickness to guard true wings.

She is basically a tweener in with post player size. Just because she is skinny doesn't mean she can't be a power forward. It's obvious she doesn't want to play in the post. But...she doesn't have great wing skills.
