Wow!!shocked

The posters on the North Carolina board seem really salty and upset that she could possibly end up at Tennessee, they've been accusing Tennessee of tampering and calling them a cheat based on rumors and speculations and no actual facts. as far as i know neither DeShields and Tennessee has had any form of contact thus far and it will stay that way until she's finally released and allowed to talk to schools.

Why are they worked up about Tennessee over any other school? And if it is illegal to have communication between a school and player in this situation, why would they suspect TN? Pat had a squeaky clean reputation and I can't think of any reason NC should expect Holly to be any different.

I don't know but i think that article with the title "Tennessee A Done Deal For DeShields" is partly to blame. Most of them want Unc to block her from coming to Tennessee and have been wishing nothing but evil on the program.

Jealousy is an ugly thing. They'd be talking this way about whatever school the rumors had DD going to. Most of the rumors point to TENN so that's who they're bad-mouthing at the moment. Regardless of where she ends up, they're going trash-talk that school. It simply boils down to the fact their best player is leaving them and they know it's going to significantly hurt their program.

This whole DD thing is a mess and the rumors are true. DD will be coming to Tenn adn not alone. Leaving UNC after recruiting players to join her and pouting on the court during games and pouting with Ivory Latta on the bench is a problem that your not going to change. It may change as she matures but not in the near future. Surrounding her with great talent wont help the situation at all. It will hurt it. BTW DD is not leaving UNC alone. So what are we talking about. Having what happened at UNC happen at Tenn is what could very well happen. Like I said it is a mess. UNC had a nice class coming in and when DD and her friends all committed the question was where will the schollies come from. Well the next question is how will Tenn handle the same situation? Yes it would be terrific to have a player with her talent to play with your team, however your need a team player, a player who is coachable, a player which will better your team chemistry. Do you think that will happen for Tenn after watching what evolved at UNC? This is not a good situation and if you think it is just look at where UNC is now. I look at UNC and see Tenn's future. As far as hard feelings by UNC. Reverse the situation. What if Russell and Graves decieded to transfer to ND or UConn. How would the Tenn fans feel? Its the same senario Another quesiton that needs to be addressed. What effect of having DD come have on other possible recruits? Will DD mind sharing time with Nared?

The last DD that came to UT (although football) didn't work out too well.... maybe this will be different.

One of these days UT is going to "Rise Again".

good points in your posts, TC

I too think that DD would cause more trouble than it's worth to bring her onboard @ UT

send her to u cons LOL

actually. ole gee no is the only coach that could probably handle dd's ego and get 100% out of her talents.

is to look at the DD situation from the reverse angle: UT doesn't really have much team chemistry, especially on offense. That's been our problem for 20 years. It was a problem with Summitt, whose idea of a good offense was not to run plays/pass with precision like ND or UConn but to recruit great players and get them the ball and hope they can score. Last year we tried to get the ball to Harrison, and if that didn't work MS hoisted one. So if we get DD, it might work out well: She'll take over the MS role, and should be better in it. We'll make three passes and then hope DD can score.

I can answer the question as to how TN fans would feel. Teresa Geter, who was instrumental in our tournament run, decided to transfer to SC due to homesickness. Every year when she returned to play at TB she got a huge ovation from the fans and hugs from coaches and players. I still remember her with fondness and know many other TN fans do too.

I disagree, but everyone has an opinion.

You make a lot of good points but I would answer with the fact that we have no one with significant playing time (taking Tucker and the freshman out of the equation) with the proven ability to score on the offensive end like DeShields. This is a once and a generation player with talents no one on the current roster can come close to matching. If the current players didn't want the roster to get upended then they should have been playing better the past two years. They haven't played well enough deserve that kind of consideration.

The only thing I take away from Tony's post is that he feels threatened by Diamond coming here. To which I can only say.... good.

For sure whichever school she goes to play (assuming she's not retiring or anything like that), there will be a question mark and I said that from the get go. But, we just can't say definitively one way or the other because we don't know the circumstances to which she came to North Carolina nor the circumstances with which she is leaving.

Hopefully whichever school she tries to go to, the head coach will vet her properly to make sure she is a good fit and communicate expectations accordingly. Namely it's a team game and the team comes first and talent does not guarantee playing time, rather it requires hard work, building team chemistry, and a desire to compete and win.

Generally speaking, I like to give people the benefit of the doubt or a second chance if needed. However, if things don't go well at her next stop, then obviously she would have to take some ownership in the problem.

If Diamond indeed comes to Tennessee, it's all but a lock that she's going to start. If she went to Tennessee as a freshman, she would have been the best player on the team. After she sits out her 1 year, she will still be the best player on the team unless Jaime Nared is criminally underrated. So it's not about getting Diamond to adjust to the other players, but rather that Diamond will be the centerpiece of the team, and all of the parts will be built around her. Yes, she has to play within the confines of the offensive plays and needs to involve her teammates, but make no mistake...she will be the star of the team. And why not? She's the #1 player from her class and was easily one of the top 20 in the country this year. She's a star, and the kind of player that Tennessee has not had since Parker left.

No threat Voluble. I think the LV haters would be rejoicing that Deshields is going to Tenn. The fact that shes bringing at least one other player along with her could make the situation even A better or B worse. Let me say this. Ive read many fans saying we need to change our offense. How will this change the offense? Tenn already has 6'6 6'3 6'2'6'2 and a couple of pretty good point guards. Tenn has terrific talent. Talent isnt what Tenn needs. They need team players and team leaders and less dribbiling and more passing.

No, what Tennessee needs are gamers. They don't have enough clutch players who welcome and thrive on the spotlight. Diamond is that player. She is a must have.

For all of Diamond's flaws, what she will bring to the team more than makes up for anything else. Sure, there may be chemistry issues, but that's up to the players she's supplanting (Nared, Tucker, Jones, Dunbar) to up their game and challenge Diamond for minutes...not expect that they'll just get it because it's "fair".

We needed an offensive system change without a Parker, Diana Taurasi, Skylar Diggins type of player on the floor. One more team oriented like Notre Dame this year.

I would still say they need an offensive system adjustment but adding Deshields masks a lot of those deficiencies. If you can't see that she is a superstar in that regard I don't know what to tell you. I agree with clk...you seem really threatened by DD coming to Tennessee. Like I said earlier the girls on the current squad don't play nearly well enough to have a beef with DeShields coming aboard.

IF she does end up at TENN, I highly doubt our opponents will be rejoicing. In fact, my UK and VANDY friends are already hoping and praying she doesn't end up here.

I, for one, hope she comes. I think she is more of a team player than some are giving her credit for. In the NC games I watched, she got her teammates involved on several trips down the floor...but what is great about her was she didn't shy away from being that go-to player when they HAD to score. She will grow up and mature...She was just a freshman...I can only imagine how egocentric I was back then. And I agree 100%...if the other players want to keep their jobs...then step up and earn it OVER DD. Hard work pays off.

Diamond was never happy at UNC. She actually wanted to leave before the season started but was convinced to stay for at least one year, and if she still didn't want to stay, she would be released. Well, that is what happened.

Nared is great. She isn't as nearly as good as Diamond.

I really wish you would just leave these boards, tonyc. You have been consistently making a fool of yourself for years now. I am convinced you aren't playing with a full deck, you insist on commenting on subjects you know nothing about.

You don't win the NCAAT without at least one "special Player". Deshields can be that special player. I hope we get her.
