Yahoo claiming Bray and Couch (among others) took cash? (Merged)

Seems like it would be easier to punish the student athelete(s) that are still NCAA eligible rather than the University itself. Unless of course the school had knowledge of it.

Ugh! Cowherd this morning is trying to give this story legs. Says it's relevant and that it's "only the beginning" of this story. Says he believes there is "more to come." he did this all of course with out even muttering the word "Tennessee". Simply says "certain SEC schools". I'm beginning to see the scope of the anti tennessee power base. Butch Jones has got his work cut out for him. There are a lot of people who don't want to see him succeed.

Seems to me that Alabama is much more in the spotlight on this than anyone else.

I doubt Cowherd's comments have anything to do with the Vols. He's trying to stir up fans of Alabama, and those who hate Bama. That's what he does, incites fanbases, makes wild predictions, and insinuates something big and dramatic is coming down the pike.

Sadly, Tennessee isn't moving the needle at all on a national scale, so Cowherd could care less what happens at UT.

Tennessee is going to get dragged down into this with them. It's a quagmire if ESPN decides to roll with it. They are much more interested in taking down tennessee as a story than anything else. they have already switched their daily focus from pushing the Bama/AM game to the wisconsin/A ST. game. There will be more focus on other games if they decide to push this.

And as I've stated in several other threads recently, the NCAA does not have the same bite they had in the 1980's.

I anxiously await the day every major University tells them to take a hike.

ESPN is obligated to cover this weekend's game to a certain point based on them sending everyone down here. Its broadcast is on CBS though so, there's only so much they're going to do before trying to avoid hyping their own broadcasts.

Exactly.
I love UT but when given the choice between the Vols and the kids?
The kids always win.

Understandable. At that point you quit football and get a job while finishing your degree to provide for your kids. Plenty of people do it. Football isn't everything but what kind of lessons are you teaching your kids if you take money from a scumbag agent and force your teammates (who turned down the same money) to vacate wins after all of the hard work they have put in. Still seems selfish to me.

and saddle himself with debt? Not a smart move either

vacating wins does not change anything except a few pieces of paper.

Shiner Bock - Spoetzl Brewery - Shiner, TX - BeerAdvocate

Eh, some people tend to agree it's bad. The people that run that site drink beer for a living and have free beer sent to them on a daily basis. They rated it poor.

2,000+ other people rated it okay.

People have different tastes. I know I think Fat Tire isn't that good but a lot of people love it. Me personally, I don't care for drinking beer that tastes like tootsie rolls. To each their own.

you need to go to a taste bud doctor. I hate tootsie rolls, and shiner doesn't taste like them at all. I wouldn't be able to take a sip.

You need to quit looking for the black helicopters.

Exactly. Hate to say it, but the reason he didn't mention us is that we just don't matter very much right now.

Yes, but were any of those schoosl already on probation when it happened? Gotta think the penalty may be 3-5 schollies lost a year. I doubt it will escalate to a bowl ban.

I can't see the school getting any punishment since it wasn't directly involved (i.e., donor, former player, etc.). I think Orange Hammer is right. This is more about Couch likely never playing again.

I can't see how a Compliance Dept can be reasonably expected to notice a player got $1300 or $900. It's not like he was living an extravagant lifestyle and they were grossly negligent.

Maybe, but there is just too much dirt and fish in the air. It's all just too suspicious. I think we scared people...people with something to lose. Follow the money trail back, because the devil always leaves a money trail. That's my midlife experience talking.

Stick to kissing Barrys butt in the politics forum LG...moron. If you are truly a lawyer it would seem that your reading comprehension would have kept you from making such a stupid conclusion. UT never paid anyone...dirtbag agent allegedly did hoping for future client representation. Try to keep up.

I don't think you got my point. I really don't think $1300 should result in any sort of penalty to UT, in terms of a sanction, because I don't think it is about UT being a more attractive school to a recruit. $1300 seems like too small an amount to sway someone for four years, imo.

Fluker's take, if true, starts to get noticeable.

Who in the world fears us right now?

This is not a Tennessee story. It's an Alabama story with Tennessee collateral damage.

We scared people?

I have no idea what you're talking about.

If Mo hasn't taken any money since Fooley left, then we should get some leniency here. Mo should be ineligible for the season an we should all move on.

Wishful thinking, I know.
