Yahoo! Sports: Saban to Texas (Rumor)

This is all just a great big smokescreen. Gruden will be taking the job. All of our coaching search reports were true, they just had the wrong UT.

Whats a good coaching search without a smokescreen?

We are talking Programs where coaches would want to go, correct? Top programs of all time...top traditions... top selling points. They are all over the web, and Oregon doesn't make the list.

I'm pretty sure Oregon hasnt even made the list for Top 50 all time programs. You really think you can jump to the top over a few years of winning with a fancy training facility and some neon jerseys?

YOU are delusional, sir.

:good!: 100% correct - as expect Bearcat fans can not understand given lack of their own football tradition :)

My coach? What the **** are you talking about? The only people who think UT is a top ten job are UT fans. It just simply isnt right now.

Think we are way off topic, would be great if we started a thread about this.

I think, they think, your username means you're a Cincinnati fan

I just don't dee Saban leaving Bama unless TX throws the keys to to state and the checkbook along with it

He said something like... Nobody knows him as good as me... What the hell? I didn't know they bff's. There's always a chance. Just a ridiculous comment. And yes, I probably have some sour grapes as a vol fan. I hate bama and hate Saban. And it's huge for us if he were to leave. Coaching staff stability is everything in college football.

The new rumor floating around tonight is that Texas boosters are planning to pay of Saban's nearly $20M debt if he signs with UTx, on top of whatever outrageous contract they throw at him.

Saban invested heavily in a Louisiana development project called Perkins Rowe about 5 years ago with friend/businessman Tommy Spinosa. Spinosa completely mismanaged his and other investors' money and now owes KeyBank $201M.

Here's a couple of links with one mentioning Saban in the deal

Plus they would have to pay off his contract at AL. That is a lot of money being thrown around if true.

In regards to Saban he was just giving his opinion much like picking a winner of a game. Not really reporting anything. Gmne even stated he had no inside knowledge.

Say the guy who can't accept Oregon wasn't relevant until the later part of the 90's......How many NC's they got again?

Do you have problems reading simple text? How many winning seasons do we have in the last decade?? How many does Oregon have? If you think the Tennessee job or program is above Oregon right now, you are just ignorant to reality.

Why the last "decade"?

So you would rather go back futher to determine which program is most relevant and at a higher level. We may as well go back 100 years so we can make the argument that Army and Princeton are juggernaut programs.

That's ridiculous, you don't have to go back 100 years. You're putting to much on current success. 6 years ago people said Oregon was better a better job than bama because they were losing and Oregon was winning. We all knew bama would return and was a top job. Was bama a top job in the country back then? Yes, but because they were losing people said it wasn't. We are talking overall best places to be. Right now Oregon may be better but when all is even Tennessee is a better job. Better recruiting base, fan support, stadium, NFL players, and tradition. When Oregon goes down we will see how good of a job it is, UT has remained a top destination during the down years. That's what separates the elite programs and Oregon may very well reach that or be there now. Anyway, we are kind of arguing two different points. Right now Oregon may be a better job but overall UT is a top 10 job. The last 6 years don't change that. Wait until we are winning big again and there is no way people will put Oregon and Miami jobs above us. 6 or 7 years ago those lists had us ahead of bama for top coaching destinations.
