Yemi granted release. (order of protection taken 4/22)

I'll be surprised if Edwards isn't the next to depart, not Landry.

My gut is telling me this as well.

I have been hesitant to shoot Landry down. His numbers are alarming, but I can seriously see him being just fine if he is a competent defender (reportedly is), can limit turnovers (?), and can effectively pass the ball (?). I stress this to not confuse it with accumulating assists; we don't necessarily need him to do that, but it is a MUST for him to feed the post, throw oops, and make accurate passes to the perimeter.

I'm not expecting anything much, but I believe we are in a position to benefit from kind of a neutral player that's not going to stuff the stat sheet, but help the team win, a la Kirk Heinrich (may be a bad example, but best I can think of this hour.).

Let's be honest here. Let's look at 2 scenarios as if Yemi was not forced and Yemi stays.

Yemi does everything right, and still has little PT. Maybe Cuonzo feels as if he could coach Yemi to be good? I still would have my doubts. Yemi becomes a wasted scholly for years.

Yemi (as rumors have been said) becomes very arrogant, rude, disruptive, missed classes, etc.. CCM tells him that he will get little PT and he has personality problems. CCM let's it play out. Still it becomes a wasted scholly for years.

This is where I get confused though...

In the coaching business, you can't play the nice guy all the time. Whenever you feel like you are able to UPGRADE in a position and you know 100% the recruit will sign LOI if offered, you ABSOLUTELY have to do something to make room.

Bruce Pearl knew he made a recruiting mistake with Daniel West. He made sure to "push" him out as soon as he could.

With Cuonzo, what disturbs me is that it has taken 2 full years to finally figure out that Yemi was not going to work. THAT SCARES ME.... Especially if Cuonzo was never on planing on "forcing" him out. Force, push..it's the same thing regardless.

If this was Yemi's full decision to leave, and nothing was forced, pushed, etc...than CCM needs a reality check on his evaluation/recruiting.

I don't see how he was forced looks like it was his decision mainly because we replaced him with Yemi2

I would much rather see Edwards go than Reese. I would like to see more of Reese because he may have some potential.

CCM had no choice and this was not Yemi's choice either. I'm more astonished that this is being kept quiet. Tennessee should have cut bait in January.

Can we just, for maybe a week, try and not bash one of our coaches, players, former players? It's ridiculous how much some fans will reach just to find any fault they can in their own program.

Never bash a player but Martin deserves every bashing he is getting.

I have no problem with being upset with his product on the court so far, but digging into the Yemi situation to try and somehow make it as much a negative reflection on CCM as possible is just ridiculous.

Speculation and assumptions without any viable information do not reflect well on those who make them.

Not bashing Martin for his handling of Yemi. Bashing him for not building a team capable of making the tourney every year.

For Bleedin, who I know will try to point to next year, it is not acceptable to make the tourney 1 out of 3 years.

You and Ziti nailed it, some people are just looking for something to b!tch about with Martin. Wait until Landry goes to prep school, a couple posters will be saying how bad it was Martin ran him off.

It goes both ways.....I remember during the Martin covers his mouth when he coughs.....I'm so glad he is our coach era......there were several claiming Martin was too classy to run off players.......lol

Then other day we were discussing martins recruiting and people that all these players had a lot of potential and yemi would be really solid by his senior yr( really good reb/min stats) are now glad he is gone. Lol

DONE, I have eliminated several posters on here because they talk Smack and have no thought into what they are posting, building a program, sorry Coach Martin didn't call you to see if YOU LIKE THE PLAYER.

If you are that sensitive, probably shouldn't hang around message boards.

Agree on the fact that thus far I'm unimpressed with the product on the court. More referencing the OP's desire to dig this in the most anti-CCM way as possible.

Had a team capable of dancing this season.
Blew it when he told them they were in regardless of how they played against Bama.
I mean who was telling him the SEC would place 5 or 6 when most of the analysts were arguing 3 or 4. Some even 2.
JMO though.

I hate when ppl put things out in the universe without solid evidence. Better yet, just keep it to yourself if it's not constructive.

I don't think CCM just said hey guys screw it lets not play today against Bama we are in no matter what. McRae and Golden just had terrible games. CCM switched defenses and line ups and nothing worked.

Don't think he said that but you interpret what he was thinking.
Many think Bama was a Must Win.
Cuonzo Martin, Tennessee Vols have more to do | timesfreepress.com

"You want to play on that stage," Martin said, "but the balance is you can't go in there like you're pressing like, 'Man, we've got to have this win.'"

Cuonzo Martin says Missouri win is biggest so far at UT » GoVolsXtra

He wrapped up his postgame press conference around 6:20 p.m., calling the Vols’ 64-62 win over visiting Missouri, “A great win for our program.” More extroverted than normal, he used the meeting with the media to cement his team’s position in the NCAA tournament picture, saying, “You’ve got to do the job and I think the job is done.”

For what being left with nothing and trying to turn a program around...people are clueless when it comes to bashing Martin. Nothing he does satisfies the haters. If he would have kept Yemi he wouldn't have known what he was doing...now that he got rid of him everyone thinks he is the worse person on the planet. Scholarships are earned on a year to year basis. If you aren't performing the way you should be and progressing you are going to lose it.
