sorry to hijack Yemi's thread. Congrats to him and good luck. Good to see we added some size. Hopefully he can give us some depth underneath.

your original post called it "Pearl's recruiting mess", which is why I commented to begin with.

If you didn't mean that then don't post it, so that I won't have to correct you.

Our current recruiting mess and personnel situation is 100% of Pearl's doing. If you can't understand that, go away.

Coach Martin is trying to salvage a disaster. The gaping holes in our returning roster were not of his doing.

Patently false.

Ware was ranked as a top 10 player in his soph. year. He was way overrated. He has been in a steady fall since then. He is now ranked in the top hundred because he started out so high. If he had been ranked 65th in his Soph year, he more than likely would not be a top 100 player this year. That is my opinion but I believe he is Over Rated!!! If he develops his game, he could be a great player, but you can say that about a lot of high school prospects.

I'm glad somebody wants to come play for Tennessee and I'm glad Martin is out try to scrape up players - I can't wait to see how he coaches them up. As for Bruce, I never cared for his personality or his coaching style (too much like a used car salesman and too little hustle on the players' part) but sure couldn't argue with his success. I appreciate what he did and I'm ready to move on.

The fact that you (hat) and BPV are claiming Pearl didn't recruit when two of his guys are leaving early for the draft is really all the evidence I need to show that you are wrong.
I think they're talking about recruiting of the 2011 class.
Any effective recruiting for 2011 high profile players ended in Sep 2010.
Martin was left with picking up the pieces in March.

1st time I've ever talked on here, but I had to say....Everything you have said is completely ignorant! Not all TN fans can be smart I suppose.

Thanks for you input Shmoeseph. Because you didn't bring anything new to the discussion, or back up your disrespectful comments, I would suggest you read the forum rules. Or do us a favor and go back to not posting.

:good!:

Our recruiting mess has nothing to do with the way Pearl recruited.

We are in this situation because we fired a coach very late in the game.

As I have suggested on numerous occasions, if the decision was to fire Pearl, it should have taken place in September 2010, not this spring. Pearl did the best he could to recruit this season and fill the holes that were coming. Chances are, if he was back Hopson would be too and maybe even Tobias.

If Pearl would have been fired in September, this class could have been salvaged. If Pearl was still coaching, this class could have been salvaged. The way Pearl's firing was handled, and the timing of it are what has resulted in the recruiting mess. If you can't see that maybe you should go away.

Blaming Pearl is the typical babble and garbage I have come to expect from you, lawvol, and the other hatophiles, but it is tired, stale, and boring. Move on and blame something else.

It is laughable that every time an unknown and unheralded player comes along you and the other degenerates jump on Pearl and say it is a result of what he has done. If we'd been able to land a highly ranked prospect this late in the game I doubt any of you would give him any credit for the rise in stature he helped give the program over the last six years.

If I prove otherwise, will you stop posting until Pearl is coaching college ball again?

If you can show me threads from hat that said 1) Ware is wildly overrated 2) Jones is a moron and has no chance at qualifying 3) There is no chance Hopson is coming back because he is already looking for an agent and 4) There is no chance that Tobias will come back because he is a top ten pick... that were made before the end of Feb. of this year... as hat claims, I will, gladly.

Because they don't exist, I will stick around.

Im glad we beat out Wyoming and Hofstra. Winning these recruiting battles is what champions are made of.

He could end up being one of those coaches who is a really strong player and ethics coach and not as much a recruiter and salesman. If he has strong coaching abilities he do a lot with this guy. Depends on the guy. Recruiting is a big part of the battle but maybe they got this guy for other qualities that can help draw in players a few years after he has been here?

As coach Summitt would say, "you can't win by bringing a mule to the race" or something like that. I do not think the future looks good no matter how good a coach he is. He better be out of this world good to win in the sec with these types of players. I hope he is.

you may on to something... scapegoating a Jew for a problem that clearly wasn't his fault.
Whose fault was this?

"Pearl and each of his three assistants will not be allowed to recruit on the road starting Sept. 24. Pearl and assistant coach Steve Forbes will be unable to travel to recruit for a year. Associate head coach Tony Jones will be allowed to resume traveling in nine months, and assistant Jason Shay in three months.

That means UT will have only one coach on the road during the high school basketball season and two during the summer evaluation period.

Because of the admitted phone call violations, UT made no recruiting calls for a one-week period in August. It will reduce the number of official visits allowed and its off-campus recruiting opportunities. There will be no recruiting visits allowed during the weekends of the Florida and UAB home football games.

Hamilton said all Vols coaches will be permitted to make and accept recruiting calls and to host prospects on campus for official and unofficial visits. Hamilton said, “It could be that more penalties will be levied against us,” but that he hopes the self-imposed penalties were strong enough to preclude the NCAA from taking additional action."

“We are not going to allow these sanctions to prevent our program from being competitive,” Pearl said. “I think there are prospects that are still going to be interested in the University of Tennessee.”...SportingNews

Oh my bad, I missed all these threads and posts.

Looks a lot like revisionist history. I don't know if Ware is wildly overrated (but that alone is a wild improvement over you last post which said he sucked), but everyone here was pretty big on him until he decided to look around.

I don't remember anyone mentioning Jones' grades until the semester started winding down and it was qualifying time.

I don't remember seeing anything about Hopson not attending classes until the season was over and the decision on CBP was final.

I agree about the Harris part.

this post is truth. but will get overlooked because he doesnt have a pep squad cheering him on.

opinions pick up momentum on this forum and become facts overnight. some guys here with no scouting or coaching experience are taken as experts when all they are doing is quoting someone else opinion. but because they do it with such vigor and color the lemmings eat it up. its disgraceful. people desperately need validation on the internet and will blatantly lie to get some satisfaction

As a person who has been to switzerland, I will give my 2 cents:

1) I believe the man said Ware was a player you win SEC titles with.
2) Jones' chances of qualifying before being kicked out of hs were slim. Hat and most others discussed the issues
3) Hopson has been out of town and out of class, so it doesn't take much to figure out what his plan was. Never say never on anything though, because you become a fool when the "never" occurs
4) Harris' family had a plan but many things changed--BP situation and the issues with the draft and his stock rising. You cannot pass up first round guaranteed money for 3 years. I don't recall anyone saying Harris is top 10.

Everybody has opinions on here, but I wouldn't waste too much time on trying to prove people wrong. Things may be right one day, then wrong the next.

It's a conspiracy between Mike Hamilton, President Obama, and ESPN.

That is what makes the ignore function an awesome feature.

The only alternative to taking these guys is to play next season with 7 scholarship players.

If Martin is still having to settle for this level of talent next year, then the red flags can go up. All of the top talent in this year's class was already off the board when he was hired, and all Pearl left him was one player who can't qualify and another who was vastly overrated.
