Yesterday could not have gone any worse for Tennessee

If Tennessee were looking for any help to make them look better in the eyes of the committee that door has been slammed shut.

Not only did Georgia win, but the game went to overtime. The committee will see this as "very competitive" even though both teams kind of sucked and I think Tennessee could have beaten either on on Saturday.

Also Pedophile State didn't get blown out by Oregon and will now be assured a home game.

And finally worthless trash Clemson now gets into the playoffs putting us in direct competition with yet another team. So the final seeding will most likely look like this with Tennessee going on the road.

Seed
1. Oregon
2. Georgia
3. Boise St
4. Arizona St
5. Notre Dame
6. Texas
7. Penn St
8. Ohio St
9. Tennessee
10. Indiana
11. SMU
12.Clemson

I don't really know about 10-12 or whether Bama gets in because it doesn't really concern Tennessee other than do they rank Clemson ahead of Tennessee because they won the conference which is totally an argument someone on that dumb committee will try and make.

So if you are a fan of things being absolutely as difficult as possible for Tennessee you'll probably be getting your wish. I just hope they can hold their own or win against OSU before getting squashed by Oregon.

GB🍊!
We’re in, bama is out. To me that’s a great day

Oregon did not look like a great team yesterday. They literally do not have a defense and if a team has any type of offensive pulse, that team is going to score points against Oregon.
Too bad Tennessee doesn't have an offensive pulse 😂 Oregon's secondary is so bad too bad Tennessee can't pass the ball for crap. I guess anything is possible but playing Oregon on the West Coast seems like a big ask for Tennessee. That's assuming Tennessee even makes it that far. Here's for hoping! I still believe in Santa Claus so maybe he will bring me a Tennessee win!

Agree with this. If you can contain #15 to some extent, you can slow down their offense, and that defense is a sieve. Hell, they made Penn State look like an offensive juggernaut and Allar like a legitimate QB until he returned to form with that last INT.

Yesterday also showed that the SEC teams and SEC Football is just different. SEC football still seems to be oriented to defense and the concept of a team that is complete and can dominate on both sides of the ball - whereas other conferences are more scoring machines who tend to be weaker defensively. The Big 10 used to be like that as well - Oregon is the odd team out. More than likely the other Big 10 teams adjust next year, and Oregon will not be as successful - I think their success has a lot to do with them just being different than what the Big 10 normally is.

Offense sells excitement and tickets - defense typically wins championship - going to be an interesting playoff.

You immediately lose all credibility when you rank SMU ahead of Clemson.

Brother, they played yesterday.

Clemson has 3 losses and SMU has 2. If SMU makes the field (which Im skeptical of), they will have to be ahead of Clemson. Either Bama will be the 11 or SMU will be. No other teams have chance at 11 slot. Clemson gonna be the 12 no matter what.

Heck, PSU (11-2) will likely be ahead of tOSU (10-2) eventhough tOSU has two really good wins including one at PSU and PSU has no good wins...

Had Georgia or PSU been blown out there's absolutely a chance Tennessee could have been the 8 seed. Georgia was only ranked 2 spots ahead of Tennessee and people have suspected PSU a fraud all year they could have dropped like Indiana did.

Tennessee may escape with their lives from The Shoe but they aren't beating that Oregon team no way. Our offense can't score enough to keep up even if our defense plays well.
Oregon's offense would be difficult to defend but their defense, especially against the run, was the only reason that game last night wasn't a blow out. We need to stop projecting how our offense will perform against other teams based on how they did in a few games against SEC defenses. Also, Vandy had a decent defense and we shredded them.

Folks need to study what Wisconsin did.

Penn State is not an offensive juggernaut team at all.

I agree. As I said before there’s no way the Big 10 selection committee is going to allow Tenn to have a home game against a Big Ten team.

Even though Penn States best win according to FPI is 31 and ours is number 4. It’s ridiculous we’re going to have to play in Happy Valley.

Best Wins

UT—PSU
4 — 18
21 — 31
26 — 45
39 — 46
50 — 49

That's a very orange colored glasses view when you consider Tennessee played some awful SEC teams in 2024 and didn't score 30 points until we played Miss St the worst team in the SEC.

Can we just be happy that we are relevant enough to be in the playoffs, and no longer wandering in the wilderness of the has beens and the lost?

I am happy we are in but I was hoping to be able to attend a playoff game. With the limitation the CFP has put on visiting teams, if we travel that isn't happening.

No, since they are SEC champions they earned a bye, and they actually played better with the back up anyway.

In any event, if we would really have beaten Texas or Georgia yesterday and Clemson is worthless compared to us as OP believes then we should cruise thru the playoffs and win the natty with ease. I am not sure why he is even worried about where we are seeded.
You think the team that beat us on the road winning the SEC is a killer for us? Meanwhile, the two Big10 teams and the other SEC team ahead of us have beaten no one and also have two losses. Those losses all make Alabama look better because they beat Georgia. Penn State, Texas, Indiana, SMU, and Notre Dame have zero quality wins and have lost to the only good teams they have played. These are all bad things for Tennessee? Explain your logic

A very slim chance, possibly, but still highly unlikely any of those teams would have fallen behind us. They were never going to drop Penn State from hosting after a loss in the BIGCCG, as it would be another disincentive of the CCGs. Georgia would maybe have fallen to the 8 seed with a loss, still ahead of us due to H2H and extra game, so then we’d be playing in Athens again.

If the hope rested on Georgia getting blown out by a Texas team they already beat, then it wasn’t much of a likely hope to begin with. Penn State is clearly grittier than some thought, or Oregon is weaker than perceived.

I don’t quite share your perspective on Oregon—our defense would be the toughest they’ve faced and Penn State (not exactly a prolific offensive team) just put 37 on them.

I think yesterday went as realistically best as possible.

It's a discussion, which is what forums like this are about, right? No one is unhappy (well, there are a handful for whom projecting doom is their reason for being), but seeing what the bureaucrats do and how they rationalize it will be very interesting.

If Bama gets left out, that's pretty good to me

I don't care what happens to Bama.

I do care whether the committee will rank the teams based on the strength of the team or just based on # wins. If they continue to rank based on the # wins, the SEC needs to reduce the number of SEC games next year, let the teams schedule more cupcakes to bolster the number of wins each team has per year so the SEC can end up with a bunch of 11-1, 12-0 teams.

Did you reply to the wrong person? I see no correlation between what I said and you seem to think I said.

Well, for some reason the selection show today is 4 hours long. They have plenty of time to drag it out and talk about all these scenarios

My post is an opinion. No one is obligated to either agree with it, or even pay attention to it. A lot of times, I don't myself.

Seriously, our fanbase gets greedy as hell so fast. There is no enjoyment of anything by so many. After the loss in Athens we were just hoping to sneak back in. We were one of a handful of teams going into the weekend knowing we were in, but the Legion is on to the next thing to piss and moan about.

If we do play in Columbus and somehow win there, im not terrified about playing Oregon in Pasadena.
Somehow our fans would get there in big numbers, maybe 20,000.
And even though Gabriel is a handful, Oregons defense doesn’t scare me.
They are small and had trouble tackling especially the tight end.
I think Kitselman and Bru (if he’s mostly healthy) could be tough for them to bring down.
Their dline is ok but not elite.
20,000? The Rose Bowl holds almost 97K.
