‘23 NC SG Freddie Dilione (Tennessee commit)

Has Freddie already enrolled at UT and practiced ? Will he be on the bench in Columbia, today ?

I’m guessing that the odds of Dilione NOT being redshirted for the rest of the season just increased slightly. Still highly unlikely, as I can’t see Barnes being able to accept his defensive proficiency after only a week or two on campus, but being able to convert layups would put him further up in the rotation.

I guess it will depend on whether or not TN can make adjustments going forward to address how KY defended TN’s perimeter. As wide open as the paint was, it seems like Phillips should have been able to exploit that spacing.

Also, how bad the injuries are to ZZ, Santi, and ZZ are huge considerations. TN needs to stop the bleeding or this season could go into the shitter really quickly.

Hes probably a one or two year guy anyways right? No harm in starting his clock now because its not like it will screw him down the road. If he was gonna be a 4 year guy then I get it, but not a guy whos gonna be gone early.

I would still be pretty shocked if we went that route. He’s only been on campus a few days, I’m not even sure if he has practiced with the team yet. With SEC play already close to 1/3 of the way over, my guess is he’ll still redshirt.

We did it with Santi

Not really this late in the game though. I doubt Dillione plays on Tuesday as he just got to campus. That would mean at the earliest he plays at LSU next Saturday which would be the 7th game of SEC play. I don’t think Santi’s debut was nearly that late in the season. It was like the 2nd game if I remember correctly.

Jan 4, first conf game.
I still think if he can give an offensive spark and 10-15 minutes a game its worth it.

High marks for the Cousin Eddie vibes. Yeah, ZZ and a knee, JJJ and the knee, and Santi’s shoulder and all the grind ahead could make Dilione’s appearance more likely. At this point, being proactive has to be a huge temptation.

It is well into the regular season, BUT… he’d be in good form by the time that the NCAAT comes around. It only takes one offensive effort (more accurately a lack of) like yesterday to bring the season to an abrupt end.

I’d also be shocked. Barnes is way too stubborn about having to play defense at a high level before seeing the court.

Also, even if he ends up being a 4 year player, chances are that all 4 years wouldn’t all be at one school.
