'10 CA QB Chase Rettig

You sound like you dont want him to come to tennessee or something. Im sure Rettig is excited about his offer and would be honored to play for Tennessee. You should think before you post something like that, Because there's obviously not any truth to it.

and he told you this ??? some kids (verry few) have alot more charater than this if they have ben coached right , and raised right at home, so who knows. he may know that JS may be a notch ahead of him right now and want to go somewhere thats gona put him in the drivers seat come NFL draft time.

I know that, but by Kiffin offering him it shows that he is wanted. Not only that, it also shows that we are not just holding back for JS and that Kiffin is willing to risk losing JS to get Rettig.

yeah i can see that point, he does have an offer im pretty sure.

One major difference I see in recruiting that is different from the old staff is we are actually after some kids that excel in the classroom. I know that brains only go so far, but we almost got beat a couple of years ago by a smart bunch of less talented kids who were disciplined, Air Force.

This kid is no exception. Good talent and smart. That is why I like him over Scroggins.

Fulmer would have never given this kid the time of day due to the lack of stars.

I understand that many might see this as some kind of adaptive wishful thinking, but I really hope we snag Rettig-- and thats not because I think our chances for Scroggins are decreasing.

As has been said before: Chase has ideal size and elite arm strength, he keeps the ball up high and has decent mechanics. He can be taught to take heat off his throws, or how to look off throws, etc; but you can't 'teach' the natural tools he has.

For my money, I prefer Rettig over Scroggins. Then again, I'm not paying for him. Still...

Scroggins is clearly the better QB right now! Rettig may or may not have more upside, if I had to choose right now I would pick Scroggins.

I disagree...don't get me wrong..i'd love to have scroggins too, but in two years a lot more people will know who chase rettig is than will know jesse scroggins.

I personally think Rettig is about to blow up....I see a 4* before its said and done.

i tend to agree, which is why im glad he is most likely going to commit before his senior season. hes already stated that it will be unlikely that he decommits from whoever he choses.

personally, i think that if we get JS, we still have a legit shot at CR...right now. if he hasnt decided by the beginning of football season, i would highly doubt that we get both.

I can honestly say I want Rettig over Scroggins. I mean, I would like both, but if I could only have one I would want Rettig. He has it all - size, arm, strength, intelligence, mobility.

And I agree with Matt, he is going to blow up this year. His senior numbers are going to be sick!

Yes, he has all of those qualities except the ones you failed to mention----consistency and accuracy. I'll take those two over 6'3 with a huge arm. Can't hit the target, can't win games.

Rettig is probably 2yrs away from being a BCS starter. If he can enroll early and get an extra half of a year to prep, then he can possibly play as a sophomore. He just hasn't put it all together yet and if he gets thrown to the wolves too early, it could be very detrimental to his confidence and progress.

From recent ESPN article on Rettig workout. The only thing this kid needs to show is consistency on the field like you said--as far as accuracy he is very accurate and not a 2 year project, although that would be nice luxury.

What impressed us so much about Rettig was his drop speed, set up and balance on five- and seven-step drops. He also was skilled in pocket movement in drills tailored to test one's ability to throw on the move or off balance. His accuracy and ability to make any type of throw were off the charts on Day 3. At one point during the workout, he nailed seven or eight throws in a row, displaying terrific footwork and mechanics.

If you have heard anything about Rettig it is that he has a strong arm -- that is obvious. This week, for the first time, we saw him display some touch and ability to change ball speeds. He's looser and more comfortable with his upper-body control, and the ball jumped out of his hand in a fluid and consistent manner.

How can you say that?

He was the most accurate and consistent passer at this latest QB camp in Hawaii. And he did that against good competition: Blake Bell, Austin Hinder, Barry Brunetti, Phillip Sims, etc..

For now but if he does have great senior season then he is instantly top 3 in the country in my opinion. Just him and Bell at that point. But that is an IF...

I wish we had a better handle on what is going on with jesse as I think it would make things a bit less hazy. With Rettig not committing to UT on the spot, it kinda reminds me of how when Scroggins did not commit as well. SC fans thought we had him in the bag and I still do not feel 100% sure as well. In looking at things, there is a slight chance that neither SC or UT could get Scroogins or Rettig.

I with you on this one, Matt. I not only am tired of all the drama and the waiting game with Scroggins (yes, it's very late...QB's are generally committed in the Spring and early summer), but I've seen enough of Rettig to be as impressed as I was of Jesse. Buh-Bye Jesse...have a nice 3-4 yr year stint as USC's Bench Meister.

Camps are camps, it's good that he can drop deep quick and hit the target, but that doesn't transfer to onfield success. Like being infront of hostile SEC fans and dealing with bigger, better, faster defenses with schemes he's never seen or practiced against. Fundamentals are great and all, but JS, Rettig, and everyone else will have to prove it on the field.
