'10 CA QB Chase Rettig

Well if he is reading then I must say dude Chase, My sister went to college in Boston. Have you been there in the winter my friend? Cold dude real cold bra. Come here and we will name streets after you:)

true story, on all accounts!

If you are reading this Chase... IMHO you could start as a true Freshman... I'm not certain that Scroggins could. It is very impressive that you have made such strides this summer.

In describing Scroggins / USC you have also described closely the Retting / UT situation. He has been down the list and didn't catch an offer until others went elsewhere or look to be going elsewhere. Maybe he wants to reject us now and go BC because we didn't show enough faith in him?? or elsewhere.

I really think the kid will get a lot of attention in fall and it will be from some schools where distance not as big a factor as UT or BC.

Good points, Larry.

I don't think either of these guys should be worried about the order in which offers are presented. It's not a perfect science and what matters after they commit is what they do on the field in practice and beyond.

They should just do whatever they decide is in their best interests at this stage. And, that does include considering family, distance, personal preferences, and other things beyond which program offers them the best shot at the NFL. If best shot at the NFL was the only factor, it would be an easier decision, and we'd be done.

But I'd rather have a well-thought out decision/committment that lasts through NSD (and into practice) than to get a quick one that whoever becomes our guy spends too much time second-guessing after his announcement.

Actually, Laguna is full of Clay Aikens and rich girls and shops. At least when I lived in the area. But, Dana Point and San Clemente(I lived in Dana for a year) are more homey and have a very laid back dude like culture yes. :hi:

If Scroggins does wait till late this month to announce, I would expect Rettigs announcement with a day. I will be happy with either of these guys. Noway we get both....I say we get one of them, and the 2nd QB to be the kid from WA (if we offer).

Rettig, its the SEC vs BC. Big Leagues vs Triple A. Plus the good BC coach (Jags) is now in Tampa coaching the Offense with the Buccaneers. We need a Qb bad so why not you? Reap the rewards and come on board.

Where will he go? Stanford, Washington, USC (probably), Arizona State, Oregon, UCLA, Cal, Oregon St., etc. all have their QBs. He's not going to pass up the #1 QB slot at UT just so he can be a #2 in the Pac 10...

Your point about turning UT down works both ways. I mean, at least we've already offered him. Those teams on the West Coast have been watching him for years and they ALL have still chosen other QBs over him. I'm sure he doesn't feel like he's getting too much respect from those schools...

Plus BC showed very little interest until their #1 QB decided to go to MSU. Rettig is ours to lose IMO.

Is this what we've stooped to?

I feel good about Casey Clausen giving him an earful. Anyone who can hit a 4th and 19 against Alabama in overtime in Tuscaloosa can easily sell a career in Knoxville. I just hope that Chase has the same kind of guts Casey had as a QB.

Any inclination being given as far as when he will announce his decision? Didn't know if he was planning on waiting until after Scroggins decides or something.

Chase needs to think about his senior season and put up the numbers that fit his talent level.

Casey is a great go-to-man for our CA recruiting efforts. Wish he had a couple more years he could give to the Vols now. It seems he'd be enjoying the Kiffin years and all the renewed fanfare.

I did not see this posted anywhere. It does not speak much of Rettig but more about the retreats for the QBs. Mentions past get aways like this and it seems every guy that goes to this thing about goes on to the NFL. Does anyone know the selection process for this? And did anyone turn it down for Rettig to get in? I was really impressed with the guys who were there. At this point Rettig is a big time QB based on his performance there. And it is a very big deal he shined there. I really am just as happy with him as Scroggins.

When has anyone ever "stooped" to an honest opinion?

Scroggins is just as free to read the comment as is Rettig... so... If you are reading Jesse, I'm concerned about your durability and frame since an injury apparently kept you out of the UT camp. You seem to float passes at times even in the highlights. I haven't read any accounts that said you have shown appreciable improvement over the summer. I still believe you are a fine prospect and would love to see you in orange... but these are my honest concerns.

How's that Honolulu?

Dear Jesse Scroggins/Chase Rettig,

on the off-chance that you are reading this, i figured that i would make my demands, i mean *cough* desires clear.

both of you come to UT, please.

thank you,

I agree...seems like more people are hung up on the fact that JS is the "current" qb that is ranked higher. The reason that Chase is not ranked that high is due to the fact that all of his receivers were hurt last year and it affected his w/l record. IMO Chase has more qualities that we are looking for in a qb on the hill...Although I am not a coach...It is not difficult to spot mechanics. I just think that Chase is more the pro type qb that we are looking for.

all valid points. BUT, distance wins out more times than it loses. Currently, 43 of the top 100 Rivals players are committed. all but 10 have committed in their hoime state. Its jsut a hard fact. Perhaps he is in the small percent and not the large..

Many schools sign 2 quarterbacks in same class. Happens all the time. We've been know to do in Knoxvville a few times...

I still say Rettig's decision will be totally based on Scroggins. If Scroggins comes to UT, then Rettig will get an offer from USC and stay in state. If Scroggins goes to USC, then more than likely Rettig will be UT bound. Unless for some reason he chooses Boston College which I don't see happening. I think he would have done so already if that was the case.

Agreed

I was one of the few who actually liked CR more than JS... People on the SC board would blast me but I think there is more upside to CR. When I came on this board, I said the same thing and it seems as if many of you are now agreeing with me as they are now doing on the SC board.

Jesse is still up in the air for either school but I do wonder why more UT fans have not made a big deal about why CR has not committed to UT after being offered "by his dream school" I think that by UT offering the other QB Rees, it may have made CR seems as if he was the 3rd choice at UT. While BC offered Joe, they were atleast up front where it is my understanding that CR was told by UT that it was him and Jesse.

I think at this point UT gets at least one of these guys and that is just fine with me. I personally prefer Chase and think he is going to be a stellar QB.

Also, at this point both will help bring in additional recruits as Chase has been getting great reviews from camps. Additionally, I think Chase is going to have a great senior year and will blow up.

Jesse is still a great prospect and has great name recognition to other recruits. Also, stealing a USC QB never hurts.

There is still a possibility UT gets both, but I don't think that will be the case.
