'10 CA QB Chase Rettig

I was one of the few who actually liked CR more than JS... People on the SC board would blast me but I think there is more upside to CR. When I came on this board, I said the same thing and it seems as if many of you are now agreeing with me as they are now doing on the SC board.

Jesse is still up in the air for either school but I do wonder why more UT fans have not made a big deal about why CR has not committed to UT after being offered "by his dream school" I think that by UT offering the other QB Rees, it may have made CR seems as if he was the 3rd choice at UT. While BC offered Joe, they were atleast up front where it is my understanding that CR was told by UT that it was him and Jesse.

I have no idea what UT was doing offering Rees and then he committed to ND a couple of days later. Strange timing at the least.

I do not think that we should underestimate the importance of Boston College here. It is a very good academic institution and if the kid is Catholic he may also be attracted to the lifestyle of the campus. I do not think that it can match UT or USC in football tradition and they also play in a weaker conference, but they are in a major metropolitan area just like where Rettig lives.

His view on Tennessee depends on how he values the importance of the football program, tradition, and coaching. But this kid is very intelligent and may consider other life aspects.

at this point in time, I think they like Rees better... JMO

Well, I think a lot of QB coach types must like Rees. Stanford and ND have some pretty good evaluators of QB talent. I have never seen any film on this kid but he has got something that is for sure. The minus is he attracts just about zero other guys. Rettig or Scroggins can do that for us.

How do you figure Rettig attracts other prospects and not Rees?

He has been at the camps. He shined at the last one. He is in CA. He plays against real competition. Other players know about him. He will be at UA game. ESPN writes about him. And the list continues. It is sales. Rettig offers you a lot more bullets to pitch WRs and OL men.

It is just an opinion but I think at this point it is a pretty sure bet he is more of a name then Rees is going to be coming in. I am not expressing any opinion on who is better.

About Rees, I dont think anyone on this board was expecting him to go to ND considering who they have on the roster and the fact that they got Hendrix also. JMO.

The reason why it's difficult to take that Rees may be more well-liked among the staff is that (unless something's changed) Rivals/Scout and the general public have seen zero tape of him. We had some reports it seems around camp time that he didn't do so great, but they still may hold him in higher regard for the future. So without the ability to really see for ourselves, everyone gets up in arms about why Rees was offered before Rettig, etc.

Personally, I agree that Scroggins will go to USC. And I am not going to be one of the guys that says I've liked Rettig more all along because it's not true. I still think Scroggins looks better, but to say I'd be disappointed if we ended up with Rettig is also not true. I think he's (from what we've been able to see and gather) definitely above anyone else that we've offered outside of Scroggins.

LWS, I am Catholic and can not stand Notre Dame, but I do see BC as a great alternative. If my child was looking for that kind of environment I would easily consider it over UT. That is if it has nothing to do with sports.

By the way, I know a several Catholics that have the same attitude about ND. Harrison Smith and his dad are just not 2 of them.

FWIW Guy on the SC board says he talked to Chase Rettig about Tennessee offering him and he did not seemed thrilled about the offer and said maybe its because he does not know much about UT.

I would say that guy is not reliable. Seeing as he knows Casey and has been here on his own dime. Communicates daily with the coaches etc. I would say guy on SC board is just blowing smoke.

The guys name is ScottSchrader SC's Senior Recruiting Editor.

Here I copied and pasted it.

"I spoke to Chase the day he was offered by Tennessee and I have to say, he didn't seem overly enthusiastic about the offer. That could be a result of him not knowing much about Tennessee".

all you need is a mop, bucket and a jumpsuit. Ive seen it work in the movies 100's of times.

Also, it never hurts to have a fake moustache.

Based on the way he phrased it it seems he is just guessing on the why.

He might not have been enthused to be talking to another reporter type. I mean he got calls all day I am sure. The fact is he was enthused when the ESPN guy talked to him.

that is disappointing.

I'm not Catholic BUT I've been to South Bend everytime that Tennessee has played up there and every trip has been BY FAR better than any other away game trips I've made. Fans were great. Campus was great. Just a very great atmosphere and fans are jsut outstanding.

I was at BC in 1979 also. Had a fantastic time there as well. After game, we hung around for 3-4 hours (night game) party with BC fans who were also tremendous.

Here are pictures of my 1991 trip to South Bend.

Without a doubt, #1 favorite game of all time... I would love a copy of the NBC broadcast (I have the movie Miracle at South Bend, but it doesn't have NBC commentary). One minute the NBC broadcaster says something like, "ND is just at another level than TN," next thing you know, blocked FG and we are back in business.

I loved the Lou Holtz jump when he thought their backup had made the game winning FG too.
