'10 CA QB Chase Rettig

"I felt I didn't need to wait any longer because I felt comfortable with my choice. BC was the first team to offer me and that showed their commitment to me."

"I liked Tennessee a lot and felt I did good there, but I never heard back from them after a few days after the camp," he said. "I wasn't sure how interested they were after that, but then they offered me right around the time I was thinking about committing to BC. It gave me something to think about and both schools are great, but I was already pretty much sold on BC."

Per Rivals... This says it all. CLK didn't show him any respect after he showed that he loved UT. Now he has kicked CLK in the balls...

we were after Rees so hard and Kiffin kind of had mixed feelings on Rettig so I understand why they waited so long to offer him.

Rettig said we didn't call him for a while after camp.... wtf
The staff has to be a bit sore a$$ed after this one

Bc from the ACC! What a joke! If your gonna go to a school in the East at least go to a powerhouse from a big time conference. The ACC is weak!! VT is their only decent team and they are sitting around with an empty glass case "waiting" for a National title. Have fun CR.

lol, nice avatar Hens

Don't slam Rettig....he did a honorable thing....went with the school that offered first

Kiffin and company now have to work even harder for slow playing Rettig.... they have time

Maybe, but I think it shows more what's going on in a lot of these 17-year olds heads. They want to be shown respect, and if they don't get the "love" that they feel the deserve then they write you off, regardless of what school has the most to offer.

you would not want us to take someone that we didn't believe could perform for us, would you? You slow walk someone UNLESS you are 100% convinced they can win for you... we aren't close to 100%

I doubt our coaching staff is surprised or concerned with his commitment to BC. Keep Rees in mind.

I'd want to be "wanted" at a school instead of just another number on a QB board. That is what happened here...

I have to say Im shocked. Shocked I tell you!

Good luck Mr Rettig.

This could turn into a good thing. With Rettig off the board and thier backs to the wall, maybe this staff can pull off a little magic and pour it on with Scroggins and sway him at the last moment. Having said that, I fully expect him to pick USC.

Bring on Grayson! And get Cam while youre at it!

Edit: I failed to say this too. Theres still a lot of time that they can work on someone who is already committed elsewhere too. Gotta keep the faith.

I'm gonna guess this is probably how this class turns out.

I know what you saying man. But this is just ridiculous. We mised on EVERYONE:

Heaps- we had NO chance, still pursued hard
Scroggins- thought we had him locked, underestimated USC
Hendrix- wanted to commit, we told him he couldn't, he said F-UT
Rees- we wanted him bad, he still went to ND as their #2 2010 QB
Rettig- didn't want him too much and he knew it, now we do, he said F-UT

I agree with that. The coaches need to make the prospects feel wanted, regardless of who gets an offer. For now, I'll give them the benefit of the doubt. They haven't had as much time as other staffs to scout these guys.

I think this years QB issues is the direct result of 2 things.....

#1 Tennessee hasn't developed/produced a legitimate NFL QB since Peyton Manning and that was 12 years ago when these kids were 5 and 6 years old. Fulmer brought in 1 Top Tier QB after Manning and that was Crompton and he hasn't produced.

#2 Our coaching staff didn't want to settle. Initially we offered, Heaps, Bell, Scroggins and a couple more. We didn't jump at players like Rees, Brunetti and Rettig. Kiffin and Co. said they wanted the best. I honestly appreciate that.

Now I think if Jesse doesn't come to UT, then I say they get a juco kid here and maybe go hard after Brunetti. Then start July 26th on the Top dog for 2011. No need to cry over spilt milk. I only see 2 of these kids making waved down the road as it is, thats Scroggins and Blake Bell. Bell is a beast and will thrive in that gun slinging offense at OU.

Good luck Mr. Rettig, maybe we'll see you in the Chick-fil-a bowl someday

You are only hearing what these kids are telling the media. We have no idea who the coaches were after the hardest. I remember in the fall of last year everyone was talking about simms. My point is unless Kiffin is giving you the inside information, I am sure it is somewhat skewed. I don't think we will have a problem getting a top qb next year. We just have to let the coaches coach a year. Everyone talks about there recruiting, but they are paid a lot of money to coach, and we will be offering a tremendously improved product at the end of this year.

That's what really hurt. Hendrix and Rettig was almost the same situation, and we lose Rettig because we went after Rees so hard, and Rees wanted to be the no.2 to Hendrix.
