I have already faced the fact that JS is a Trojan, and always knew it might happen. The Rettig situation is alot worse imo. We had him locked up and BLEW IT! We knew we always might lose Scroggins. But no one ever thought we might not get Rettig. I wasn't prepared for this...

Not sure how you can say Boyd is definitely better than anyone left before any of this class has even taken a snap their Sr year.

I agree Sab, but what do you want the staff to do, kidnap the family of the recruit and hold them hostage until he signs his LOI? UT is a hard sell to most of these kids right now. The previous staff is nearly as much to blame as the current one in that regard. Point is, you cant MAKE these kids come to UT. Just gotta keep banging on doors it seems.

I think we'll find out the answer to the Boyd thing in time. Just watch his career at Clemson.

We didn't strike out on Marve. We couldn't even talk to him. Everything indicated that he was a Vol and he backed out at the last minute. The only real strike out so far is Heaps. The coaches have only put the full court press on 2 QBs...Heaps and Scroggins.

The coaches realize that they are playing catch up and they also realize that QBs can't sign anywhere until February.

I'm sure you'd love to be wrong.

Don't give up on Scroggins yet. I understand not having your hopes up but it's not over til it's over. Just remember, early playing time. The SEC. It could happen! :eek:k:

I hope Nick Stephens, some juco, and a 2011 QB proves this was all a waste of time anyways.

I gotta say, neither was I. Like I said before...Id stopped fretting over the QB thing cause I figured we had either Scroggins or Rettig (more likely) in the bag. I woulda put Rettig at 90%. This is shocking.

interesting timing...perhaps rettig got word that scroggins is going to shock the world and pick us, or maybe i'm just hopelessly optimistic about my vols.

The thing is, we didn't have to sell Rettig on anything. He loved UT. He would have committed on the spot after camp. We blew it...

If he knew Scroggins would be a Vol, why didn't he just wait on his gauranteed USC offer? He could've stayed at home and played for a powerhouse...

I agree with this. Scroggins could still be a Vol but "a bird in hand". I think we could have landed Rettig and still duked it out for Scroggins.

I see your point and trust me, Im really disappointed about losing him too. But the staff can only make decisions on the information they have at hand. At that time, Scroggins hadnt even camped with us yet. And I think they were afraid to do anything to upset the applecart so to speak. They wanted to get the best QB on the board and I think its obvious that was Scroggins in thier opinion. Cant fault them for setting the bar high.

Never fret losing anyone for making decisions based on the order in which offers are recieved.

Simple logic suggests offer order is the inverse of offer quality. The worst offers should come first, as they did here. Life goes on.

And I realize USC offered after we did with Scroggins.

The main point is... offer order shouldn't be the determining factor for a recruit.

While I'm not sold on the "he knows Scroggins is coming to UT" argument, it is entirely possible that Rettig is not interested in walking into that depth chart.

you're acting like every player in the nation can't resist usc...maybe rettig really just likes bc more than them, maybe he doesn't want to have to wait for an offer, no-one knows what made him make his decision, but the logic behind saying that he should wait for an offer which in no way is guaranteed just so that he can sit on a bench for four years is flawed. instead he is heading to a program that has produceed good qb's recently and where he almost certainely will play. makes sense to me and hopefully it means that we have good news on the way.:crossfingers:

He is actually heading to a program in shambles. They just fired a solid coach and have had 2 or 3 players decommit in the past couple of weeks. Go to the BC boards. They have NO confidence in their team this upcoming year. Most are predicting them at 4-8 or 3-9...

As for USC, they pretty much did gaurantee him an offer if Scroggins didn't go there. And I've not seen any evidence to support the idea that Cali recruits can't resist a USC offer. Most who get one end up as Trojans...
