'10 CA QB Chase Rettig

gentlemen gentlemen, in CLK we trust. Remember that. since when do we base how bad we want a kid by how many other offers he has? We have THE BEST coaching staff in the country and I trust that if they are going to go all the way out to California to see this kid then they have evaluated his talent with their expertise and they like what they saw. On the other hand with heaps gone, brunetti gone and hendrix looking like he is going elsewhere, he might be trying to get someone decent. i like this kid but i would love to get scroggins.

Will we offer Rettig or will we take our sweet time? We know what happens when we take our sweet time with an offer, Bruntetti .

his soph. footage on the first page says he had a 3.6, so I'd guess he's ok academically. btw, did anyone notice how much he was rolling out, he might actually be a decent fit for Kiffin's system.

If Tennessee can sign Scroggins and Rettig, there will be a heck of a battle for the QB position in "10 and after. Both can play @ Tennessee!

Much rather have Scroggins/Lamaison and or Newton....Nobody wants this Rettig kid then there must be a legit reason....Seriously...Not ONE offer.:ermm:

Sorry...Cam Newton is a horrible fit for us. The guy lacks the arm to play QB in our system. I expect Crompton to be serviceable this year. Stephens will have his shot next year to compete with whoever CLK brings in this year. I really think that Lamaison may be the short term answer if Scroggins is out...but if we don't get Scroggins, Rettig seems like a must. RS him a year and then sit him a year behind Lamaison. Rettig could have 3 solid years of PT (and a total of 5 years in the system).

Still...Scroggins > this

I just hope he doesn't have a Hood deal going on. Talent but the off the field stuff over shadows the talent.

yeah...I'll concede that is AWFULLY STRANGE that he has no real offers to speak of. I don't think he's one of those late-bloomers either. His name has been around.

Neither did another pretty good QB from California. He's now won 3 Super Bowls.

No clue please inform.

I think he will blow up with offers once he has senior year footage to show. If he likes us and we haven't even offered the kid I think he could be the #2 behind scroogins.

Tom Brady had to send out his own highlight videos to several schools just to get offers. I think Michigan was one of the only scholarship opportunities he had.

Tom Brady was 7th on the depth chart when he enrolled at Michigan. If Rivals had been like it is now in 1995/1996, Brady would have been a 2 or 3* QB.

Of course Brady went on to be drafted #199 overall and that is arguably the greatest steal in draft history.

You obviously haven't seen Newton play much, He has a cannon for an arm....Really just needs some good coaching to get his accuracy down and he'll be ready to go, Big strong guy like him can adapt to any system...Plus he is a serious threat when he needs to tuck the ball and run.

There is a guy on Scout who does some very good ratings of QBs imo. He is NOT a professional, but he gives very thorough and detailed assessments of each QB that UT is interested in. He just finished rating Rettig. He rates players on a scale of 1-5 and considers Peyton Manning to be a 5. Here's the ratings he has done so far:

Jake Heaps 4.6
Nick Lamaison 4.4
Jesse Scroggins 4.2
Andrew Hendrix 4.1
Chase Rettig 4.0
Munchie Legaux 3.8

So Lamaison is rated higher than Scroggins according to this person. The one thing that puzzles me on Lamaison is that no one picked up on him before he went to Juco. I have read a few things about him on JCfootball and the posters there say he is a very accurate passer, very good a reading defenses, but can't scramble very well.

I disagree, well, to an extent. The ability to make reads is the best quality a QB can have.

Doesnt do a lot of good to make the correct reads, if your arm cant get it to the receiver fast enough or in the right spot. You can teach a kid to make reads....cant teach arm strength, or for the most part accuracy. Hardly any high school QBs actually make "reads". They have 1 receiver they look to on most occasions before the have to improvise.

Peyton cant scramble very well. But he has a great side step and can feel the rush very well. I think he would be able to move well enough inside the pocket.
