'10 LA ATH Tyrann Mathieu

"LSU had been number one on my list. It was between LSU and Tennessee it was basically who was going to offer me first."

LSU running backs coach Larry Porter is recruiting Mathieu for the Tiger staff.

Feels like staff dropped the ball a little on not offering this kid, but I think you can tell just from our commitment list so far that they are probably being overly choosy with DB's because of self-perceived depth we have there and to see how recruiting on offense starts to take shape in the coming months.

I think we were concerned about his actual play on the field because he doesn't have much tape out at all. Good pickup for LSU though

most likely JUST because of the LSU offer/commit.

rivals does that.
If this was Bama, I'd agree with you. He may even be a 5*, if that were the case.

However, he's a 5.8 rating and of all the talented DB's at LSU's camp, it has been said that he's the only one that was able to stay with Jarvis Landry (WR-'11).

I don't know, but he may very well be worthy of the 5.8 rating. He's done pretty well at two big-time camps. We'll see.

yeah, not saying he isn't good...i just don't think there is much out there on him...

camp performances are only worth so much...

I wish we would have offered.

I'm not sure, but would go out on a limb to say that they probably evaluate DBs and OLinemen differently.

They probably use different evaluators. May even base it upon the level of competition that the player faced at the camps and prep competiton. I think La prep football is probably more competitive than Illinois.

I understand your point. It's just an apple/orange thing, though.

It's just July, both players still have time to increase their rating. There's still a full senior season for them to play. (they could also drop in rating as well).

I would even go so far as to say that it could be possible that there's a bias against Tenn (when rating Tenn commits after they verbal) more than it is love toward LSU or anyone else's verbals. CLK played a particular card and it comes with rewards and consequences. The most important thing is that the guys have to get on the field and prove their worth. The ratings and stars are merely a gauge. Not the truth.

That Illinois camp is what propelled Kyle Prater to his new 5star rating and the title of #1 WR. I don't see why it didn't help Fulton any...

In my mind, Illinois' 2010 class is better than Louisiana's...

Again, you're comparing the rating criteria of a WR/DB to that of an OL. And if you think that Illinois '10 is better than La '10, then ok. It's your opinion and that's cool.

Whatever you may think, conspiracy or not, these guys have a full season to play and will be re-evaluated a few more times. I wouldn't get to caught up in July of '09. The higher rated can be lower by NSD in 2010 and vice versa. Prater and Mathieu can drop and Fulton can increase. Then what? Players don't play down to ratings and stars when they hit the field. That's what matters. Fulton will get the job done. If anything, he should be angry and have a chip on his shoulder for being downplayed which bodes well for the team(s) that he suits up for. Consider it a win for Tenn.

Janzen, Broussard, Anthony Johnson, Hilliard?

Janzen- got his dad a job/promised him a future UT job

Broussard- cant spell "qualify"

Johnson- not even remotely over despite coming from the only HS in LA that Frank has any influence over

Hilliard- hahaha

nice effort though
