'10 MS OL Shon Coleman

the point of cullen was to come in and fill a spot immediately next year to help make us more competitive that year in hopes that we could do something big. That being said, i think that with all that has happened, it is obvious that we won't be as competitive next year as we previously thought, so investing in a young raw talent may be the better idea. If we have room, we take him, but i think if we fill out the class, we take a younger HS OL over him.

Sorry....but that is some flawed logic....IMO

yes, but have you not noticed all the meltdowns and people saying we wont recover from this for 4-5 years? The fact is that we are in rebuilding mode, and the best way to rebuild at this point would be to fill up this class with young raw talent and let the coaches do their thing. Of course we WANT to be competitive next year, but our chances are a LOT better in 3 or so years by which time Cullen would be gone, but any OL we get in this high school class will be hitting his prime.

Soooo... what you're saying is...If I'm Coach Dooley and there are serious doubts as to my ability competently lead a program such as our GREAT university. I'm going to gamble my career on what may POTENTIALLY happen 4-5 years down the road?

Potential is one of the most dangerous words in all of sports and has led many to sit on the couch as we do on Saturdays and watch games.

Last time I checked, coaches were hired to win as many games as possible.

one player is not going to make us great next year, likewise the same goes for down the road. I was just saying that if having to decide between for instance, Arie K. or Cullen for a lineman spot, id take Arie just for the fact that he will be around longer and will be of more help down the road than cullen will be in the next year or two. its just my opinion.

His facebook says that,

Not surprised Kiffin wants me to visit Southern California.

ha our boy kiffin is a man of integrity

Shon must have called Kitten...CLK said he wouldn't chase our recruits...yeah whatever...Go VOLS!

Not to defend the sh*t bag but I am pretty sure he said he wouldn't chase any of our commits.

LOL, he said a lot of things that didn't turn out to be true. Why should this be any different?

Both you and Tha Don have excellent points FWIW. I love a good, intelligent debate !

why thank you. whats your opinion on the matter?
Well, as i said you both have valid points. Cullen by all accounts would help us immediately most likely. The down side as you pointed out is we would only have him 2 years. On the other hand if you can get a highly talented Freshman you have 5 years for him to play 4 technically. Both cases have their positives and negatives, just a case of which you deem most important, the present or the future.

indeed. and personally, i feel like our chances to win a championship are much higher in 3 or 4 years than in 1 or 2 years. i strongly doubt im the only one who feels this way.

I would definitely agree with your opinion that it is going to be at least 2 years or more before we can compete for championships. That being said, if we show marked improvement next year and the following year, by bringing in players who can contribute immediately, it can only help attract better players in the future. It's a tough call either way honestly.

The problem is that we need help now, and I can guarantee you that CDD isn't just going to give up on winning for the next 2 years. While in the long run a freshman might help more, CDD also realizes that he needs to get the talent in here to win as soon as possible. If he has 2 losing seasons he's automatically on the hot seat.

I agree. We can't be concered that the JuCo guys only have 2 years. If they are being recruited as the staff thinks they could start or be in the 2 deep from day 1...you take them. Tennessee is on TV almost every game and HS recruits see these games. When a 1st year player(JuCo or HS) is on the field and making plays...kids take notice. They figure if he can do it...why can't I. Always a plus in young guys working hard enough to get on the field. JMO
