'10 TN OL James Stone

Andre Smith was an exception, but look at DJ Fluker for us this year. He will play but as a backup and he was rated as one of the best OL in the country for 2009.

I believe Stone is high on our list but we will have to fight for him to the end. I still think it is a UT/UA battle for his services.

The one really nice upside with him is a team will not have to worry about him qualifying academically.

I had heard Bama had cooled on Stone. I think Stone ends up at ND. I think Bama lands either Kouandjio or Robinson. I think we get the other.

I also think our OL commits have more of a JUCO feel. But I would love to have Robinson, Stone, Tait, Pair, J. James(bama commit as of now), Fulton, and Cullen. That would be 7. I don't think we take but 5 or 6. But we may take Mosley from Ark. Which he is listed as a TE but his future will be Tackle in college. But we could have as many as three Juco guys. Which I think would leave off Tait and James or Stone from list above.

I saw the 4th quarter of Maplewood's game against MBA last night. Maplewood gave up a 28-17 with 4 minutes to go in the game. Just looked like the whole team (Stone included) just ran out of gas. Stone is an impressive figure on a high school field but from what I saw he did not make a lot of plays.

Yea, I saw that game too... and just about every other game in this kid's career. The kid played every snap of that game and he was freakin tired. He played DT and T so I'm pretty sure anybody would have been tired. Trust me he is the real deal. Once he gets in a college workout program with college coaches he's going to be a stud. He's a beast at the point of attack right now - which screams guard to me - but as another poster mentioned, he's currently playing in a run heavy offense. He made a ton of plays in that game as well as against Lipscomb this past week.

I think UT will end up with Cullen and Jawuan James sooner than later and continue to go after Stone/Robinson hard up until NSD.

A couple of reliable guys on Scout have been saying it for about 2 months. Then I received an email about it one day too. Academics are really #1 to him. That's why Vandy may actually be more of a player than we think...

Eh - well I haven't talked to the guy in a couple of weeks so it could easily have changed - but the last he said was that Stone was still probably looking at Bama the hardest - and he's not a guy from scout. It's one of the guys that takes him on all of his college visits - same guy harry was speaking of when he made those claims.

hmm, may be, I dunno. There was just a bunch of rumors about Bama cooling on him cuz they didn't think he could play OT. Then ND started going after him hard...

Yeah - see that's why I'm not 100% - I talked to the guy last back when those rumors were first surfacing - so we'll see - I could probably get in touch with him again.

I don't think Bama has backed off just watching several options right now. Especially since he won't make a decision until after the season it looks like. As I said in another post we are probably only adding 4 more to this class.

He will be a vol. I heard this a long time ago. He said he is all vol right now, he is just looking around incase we fall through this year.

I have talked to one of his friends who said James told him that the UT coaches are definately on him the hardest. While I think we are definately in good shape, James is far from a lock.

Talking to a couple of friends from college who now work in the athletic dept. at UT.....according to them, the sentiment from our staff and most other staffs going after this kid is that he isnt a SEC tackle and will have to move inside to Guard. Either way, he is a local kid at a position of need. We NEED to get this guy to prove we can get the few instate blue-chip O-Linemen that come along.
