'10 WA QB Jake Heaps

It's a long time between now and February 2010. Anything can happen on the recruiting trail with this staff.

What has changed with Heaps? I thought he was really high on the VOLS and now it seems like he is staying home.
I don't understand how a guy with that much upside would want to go to a second rate program in a second rate conference. If USC wasn't one of the best programs in the country that PAC 10 would be a complete joke!
I know we had a down year last year but we have talent and should be in the title hunt next year! It just blows my mind how a guy like this wouldn't jump all over a offer/chance like this!!!! Even if we never win the SEC and are 3rd best in the SEC he would get 10 times the exposure here than he will in the pac 10!

He's made it clear in multiple interviews that he's grown up a huge Huskies fan. Simple enough?

It's not as hard when that team is coming off of an 0-12 season. If this kid's ultimate goal is the NFL, I like our chances. Whether we are good or bad, the SEC still has the ESPN contract.

If UW wouldn't have made a coaching change, your statement would be more valid.

Some of this may be coming from our staff. The folks on VN love this guy but his rankings right now are not that high elsewhere. He may have been told he is not our number one qb target.

even if we dont land heaps kiffin is recruiting a bunch of other qbs that im sure he could mold into playmakers

We dont have to worry about that, Crompton has petitioned for four more years in college and he was granted his request. We are all good!:good!:

Honestly, if we don't get Heaps, we could be in trouble.

That leaves us with just Sims and Scroggins as our major choices. I wouldn't put our chances with them very high at this point either.

I'd say we are gonna miss out on Heaps, and I don't think Sims has us too high up there as of now. But Sims is gonna sign late, so that is a HUGE plus for us. Even if we don't get either one of them, there are good QBs out there, the coaches just have to find them. Heck, 2 of the 3 Heisman candidates (McCoy #15 QB in '05, Bradford #12 QB in '06) last year were 3 stars coming out of high school...:good!:

how on earth was bradford a 3 star he's 6-4 and has one of the most accurate arms i've ever seen...i question the validity of any service that could miss so badly on that kid.

Hindsight is 20/20, but I agree. It looks like most of the top schools in the nation missed out on him too. It looks like his only offers were from Oklahoma, Texas A&M, Texas Tech, and Iowa State. And in his Sr. year in high school, he threw 19 TDs and 15 INTs. Those stats are not very impresive at all. It's really hard to tell who the players are gonna be, but that's what UTs coaches are getting the big money for...

I'm not entirely sure about Bradford, but I don't think he went to any camps or anything because he was playing golf or baseball or something.

McCoy was one of the most underrated prospects in the country by Tom Lemming (I think?). I seem to remember him being a top 3 QB to him.

Matt Barkley 2008:

23 TD, 18 INT, .547

I know that QBs have a tendency to choose schools early. Lack of info on the web doesn't mean too much for me right now. If we target a player and we really want the guy, then I am sure we have a strong chance of getting him (info or no info)

I would be pretty worried if we don't get Heaps. The rest of the guys would need more time before being key contributors in the SEC. If Heaps goes elsewhere we better hope Coleman becomes the man to give us time to groom someone for a few yrs.

I still think Tn is still very much in it. The rivals guys are not always on top of the game with our new staff. Kiffin doesnt give up too much information in recruiting. The less the competition thinks your in it; the easier it is to sneak up and close the deal. Hopefully Heaps makes it in this wknd for the Spring game. I had heard he was trying to.
