Quarterback Jake Heaps (Sammamish, Wash./ Skyline) had a list of 10 colleges he was looking at for some time. The talented signal caller recently cut his list to five and said his decision could come any time.
The lucky five to make the final cut for Heaps include BYU, Cal, LSU, Tennessee and Washington. The feeling among most has always been the hometown Huskies and the Cougars, the church school for Heaps, are the teams to beat.
"I know a lot of people think that way but honestly, everyone has the same chance right now," Heaps said. "I feel really good about all five of these schools and I think I would fit in well at each of them.
"I would like to try and visit them before I decide but financially, that might be hard to do. If I can do it, great, but if not, I'm not too worried about it. I'm planning to decide at some point in the summer but if it feels right before then, I'll go ahead and commit early as well."
Heaps will go down as one of the most prolific quarterbacks to ever come out of Washington by the end of his senior year. In two seasons, he has led Skyline to back to back state titles and has not lost a high school game. He has thrown for over 6,100 yards and 69 touchdowns and should shatter several state records next fall.
I really hope we sign this guy.....but in the big picture of things, there could be some stud QB's we havent even heard of yet that the staff has their eyes on as well, waiting for them to have big SR years.
It's been said for awhile that Heaps is the #1 target of the coaches. Just look at the lack of contact with Scroggins if you want to know where he is in comparison. Mason isn't even in the discussion really at this point. He doesn't even have an offer.Assuming some of you guys may have insider information, is Heaps really our #1 target or is he the guy we started recruiting the earliest? I somewhat understand why many are high on Heaps, but it seems like there are kids with more upside (Scroggins and Mason) and likely others who haven't been fully evaluated yet. The fact that Heaps was one of the first 2010 QB's to be highly rated had/has many of us excited about him but with the performance that we had last season I think it makes sense to want a great prospect to come in. Now that more info is starting to come in on more kids, I think we should be patient and wait for the right guy even if it's not Heaps. From what I've seen and read, I'm much higher on Scroggins, but this is just my opinion and I trust that the coaches will do their thing in bringing in the best guy.
I based my opinion on the fact that from January-March, he always took my call or if he was busy he always called me back. For the last 3-4 weeks including last night, Heaps has not answered calls, texts, and hasn't returned my calls.
I don't think Tennessee is done with him, but based on his lack of communication recently I have thought that Tennessee was falling with him.
In 16 years you see everything, and Heaps might call me today or tonight and might change my thoughts on everything.
Because everyone has been asking about him and wanted my opinion, I gave it based on my lack of interaction with him.
We will continue to try and reach him. But to answer your question yes stuff like this has happened before.
