'10 WA QB Jake Heaps

good luck to him. i wonder if he might be struggling with the decision to go on a mission or not. would be more understood at BYY. i dunno, just a thought.

I hope this don't hurt us to bad with Ambles look what he said at our camp sorry if already posted.

“I’ve got to go somewhere where there’s a good quarterback,” the 6-foot-2, 185-pound receiver from Henry County in McDonough, Ga., said during UT’s skill-position camp on Tuesday. “That will be a big thing.”
Ambles is good friends with one of UT’s top quarterback targets: Jake Heaps from Skyline High in Sammamish, Wash.
“I talk to him once a week,” Ambles said.
Ambles is also good friends with dual-threat quarterback Barry Brunetti from Memphis University School, who was also at Tuesday’s camp.
“He’s a good quarterback,” Ambles said.
Other than that major hurdle, UT seems in good shape with Ambles. He doesn’t seem worried about the situation.
“They’re recruiting some good guys,” Ambles said. “I’m pretty sure they’ll get one of them.”
UT, Florida and Alabama are some of the teams that are recruiting him the hardest.
Ambles said he’ll likely take an official visit to UT this fall – a sign that the Vols will likely be in his top five when he decides to pare down his schools

I wish him success.....but I dont think BUY is going to put him in the NFL.

Ty Detmer, Jim McMahon, Steve Young, John Beck.

BYU has put more quarterbacks in the league than Tennessee that I can think of.

Jake Heaps is an elite talent and he could make it to the NFL playing at Troy or Toledo. Time at Tennessee would have better prepared him for the NFL, but he'll get his shot wherever he plays college ball. That's something to keep in mind.

Oh yeah and Marc Wilson who beat out MacMahon at BYU and then was drafted by the Raiders.

Obviously the BYU staff has changed over the years, but BYU has a nice QB tradition.

It is rumored that Ross Apo (WR) will decommit from Texas and commit at the same time as Jake tomorrow with a third (probably Zac Stout, LB) commitment. That would give BYU quite a bit of momentum going into Junior day on friday.

I wish him success.....but I dont think BUY is going to put him in the NFL. As a big time recruit, I just dont see passing on the schools he did to go to a program that that doesnt even consistently challenge for its conference crown, let alone a national title. I understand the religious aspect.....but as far as football goes, picking BYU over the schools he could have walked into and started Day 1 just doesnt make sense.

As said before, BYU sends as many QBs to the league as anybody, and he won't risk getting destroyed by SEC defenses, plus they're gonna be understanding of his mission. He wasn't coming here anyway, I'd rather lose him to BYU.

BYU has 13 WR on there roster right now and no one considering them for the class of 2010 that could very much change but if I was heaps I would be thinking bout that.

this is big for BYU and I'm not second-guessing the kid. he's got to do what he believes is the best fit for him, but realistically speaking the Mountain West isn't going to prepare him for the league like the SEC would have.

Jake Heaps may end up in Detroit after Stafford washes out in Detroit. (I keed, I keed.)

back to BYU----

Feldman's mailbag 4/3/2009

Feldman: Friday Mailbag - ESPN

From Nate in Provo, Utah: I'm a life long BYU fan, and I've noticed that BYU always has a handicap on recruiting because of its strict conduct code. I'm wondering if you agree that that's what's holding them back from being a regular top 15/top 10 team or if there are other factors. I'm also wondering if you think Bronco Mendenhall has what it takes to get BYU a legitimate spot in the top 10 or so.

Feldman: I do think that's part of it. There are just some kids, probably half of what most schools might have on their recruiting board, who wouldn't feel comfortable with the code and in that environment. That doesn't mean BYU can't still make a run at the top 10 every year. And it's important to note that for many top prospects who are LDS, BYU also has an appeal that other programs simply can't compete with. I think Mendenhall has what it takes to keep BYU in the top 10. He is an intense guy and has built his program around toughness and playing smart, and those teams rarely beat themselves. And his staff has done a nice job recruiting.

Good luck to Jake. You are going to be the best thing to ever happen to the Versus Network. Mountain West, Mountain West!

seriously...I'm kidding....I hope he lights it up out there.

Is it one of those sugar cookies with icing? If so then yes, yes I want one :dance2:
