'11 SC S Pat Martin - UT Signee

Well this sucks. I would have loved for him to play at UT. He could lay the wood. Best of luck to him. You can't hold this decision against him. Family comes first.

Well the reason I mentioned Clemson is because they are in the ACC. I don't think CDD would let him go to an SEC school unless he went the JUCO route.

Pretty sure Dooley can't keep him from going to SC if he is willing to sit out a year.

Dooley was quoted that he was going to help Martin to find a situation that would be a good fit. Doesn't sound like there is any sour grapes on either side.

This is one of the biggest reasons I support Dooley. He's going to help kids do what is right for them, and for the program as well.

I believe I recall OCI saying something about that there could be more to transfer or leave in another thread. I think it was in the Jansen thread but I'm not sure. May be this was one of those. Hate to see him go but understand about being away from family. Good luck to ya Pat.

Takes a man to do that if this is the case, I wish him the best also.

Did he not have a kid when he signed here? If he is leaving it's more then likely that he is just overwhelmed and homesick. It happens to alot of kids but usually if they can get past the first few months they are glad they didn't chose to leave. I wish Pat would try to stick it out a little longer. There is also the possibility that he just doesn't have the makeup to play at this level. Who knows at this point...

doesnt sound like such a pretty divorce from the Pat Martin quote on VQ.

"I'm leaving for personal reasons," Martin said. "Just some stuff went down and I wasn't happy with it. I just think it's a better fit to move on.

"I'm not upset with coach Dooley or anyone. I have a lot of respect for him. It was a tough decision. It's just one that I had to make."

Could it be that he wasn't a big fan of bulking up to play LB and basically not playing this fall?

if a freshman doesn't the like the fact he's not playing where he wants and isn't interested in fighting through the ranks like most freshman have to do on normal teams then transferring isn't really going to help. I hope it IS something to do with his family, and not just him pussin' out.

I just went back and reread an interview done by 247 sports with Pat Martin in April and when asked about welcoming competition Martin only said. "I didn't sign down here with the intention of riding the bench. I ain't going to be ride the bench that's for sure". Reading between the lines I think he thinks he's better then he really is at this point and doesn't understand that at this level nothing is going to be handed to you.
