12 TN RB I'tavius Mathers

With 9 state championships since 94 there has to be some talent in Rutherford county. I know that doesn't necessarily equate to college level but I would think 2 or 3 per year is not that far fetched.

By this logic we should pull 6 or 7 guys from Blount County every year (16 state titles since 2000). Unfortunately TSSAA state titles usually don't equate to SEC caliber college players.

I have seen Alcoa play but it has been a couple of years ago so I can't speak to them. However, I did see Maryville on Saturday night. To me, the reason for the success of that program is definitely the system. They are extremely well coached. They reminded me of a better version of the Williamson County teams over here...Franklin, Brentwood, Indepedence, Ravenwood, They have a lot of success as a team but it rarely translates to individual success on the next level.

The Rutherford county bunch though is a different story.

One thing I will say for Fulmer...he was from middle Tennessee and understood the importance of having a good mix of middle tenn boys of the team.

Pat Summitt understands it....it may not be her star players, but she always gets in there early in the recruiting process and digs a couple out of Shelbyville, White County, Clarksville, etc. Isn't there one from Wilson Central and one from Hillsboro on this year's team.

That big ole stadium was built to hold east and middle Tennessee. Yes, I know that winning is what fills the seats. During these so-so years, UT can't afford to build their fence at Crossville down to Chattanooga.

I-Train is a beast. No bias, just fact.

The guy has put up amazing numbers in the toughest top-to-bottom district in the state. I'm from one of the surrounding countries and no one wants to play any of those teams. I don't know what caused the divide here. I've read the stuff about Wilks coach and all that. We jsut need to push all that to the side and show I'Travius some Big Orange love. Then maybe he will warm up to us.

This business of "he don't like us so we don't need him anyway" is like second grade drama

I was referring to 6A sorry I should have made that clear. And my LOGIC is 2 to 3 top tier players from the 6A schools in Rutherford county. And if you read my entire post I did say that doesn't always equate to top talent.I don't think 2 is asking a lot.

If so, Jay Graham deserves all of the credit in the world with this one. Mathers was nowhere near Tennessee's radar until he showed up. Jay Graham is committed to getting the best he can possibly get and would do wonders for Mathers and Lane as their RB coach. I hope this is true and Mathers becomes a Vol.
