'14 GA S Cortez McDowell (UT Signee 2/5/14)

Normally I don't like being teased....

After taking one last visit to Georgia, ESPN 300 safety Cortez McDowell (Locust Grove, Ga./Locust Grove) knew where he wanted to go. So on Tuesday morning, the No. 21 prospect in Georgia made the call to his next head coach.

“(Tennessee defensive backs) coach (Willie) Martinez and I have been together since my sophomore year when he was at*Auburn,” McDowell told InsideTennessee. “He was recruiting me then and now that he has transferred over, that bond that we have just transferred over.”

On Byron:

“He is a good guy,” McDowell told InsideTennessee of Moore. “He is a positive guy. I look up to him now since the first time that I met him. We got in contact and he became like my older brother.”

“Everything stands out about Tennessee,” he said. “Everything about them — family, they all have one purpose in playing football and that’s winning a national championship. They also focus on other things just more like being a family.”

this commitment makes me believe we will see a crystal ball with this coach. jesus is Tennessee the place to be or what!?!

No understating this, it's a HUGE commitment for a variety of reason.

One, he is one of the consensus top safeties in the nation. Two, I thought for sure McDowell would end up at Auburn. Especially with a couple of his HS coaches pushing him that way & almost committing to us then backing off to only visit Auburn a few times. Third, he just got done visiting UGA for Dawg Night & they have supposedly made a late push for him.

Randolph (rSo), McNeil (SO), Reeves-Maybin (FR), Johnson (FR), Kelly ('14), & McDowell ('14). That's one heck of a depth chart at Safety.

That is a great depth chart. I wonder if there is a LB or two in there...

I can't help but be incredibly impressed by this staff so far. What a start. I just hope they can do the same on the field so these commits stick.

These commits are buying in to turning this program around THEMSELVES so I don't think our W/L ratio will matter.
