It has been so long since Tennessee has been in this position...having talent on hand and legitimately in on better talent that coaches can say "lets tap the brakes" on a 4* who wants to commit. Sucks for this kid, but it is nice for Tennessee.

The AJC has a story out confirming that Shelley isn't committed to Tennessee. As we've hinted at late last night something seemed off and this morning it seems like the timing wasn't right to take Shelley's commitment.

Burn any bridges?

In talking to a couple of people this morning there doesn't seem to be any. I think the kid got really excited after visiting this weekend and Tennessee just wasn't ready to take him and I think the folks at Tucker understand that. It's just part of recruiting.

Part of me is like, aww man why aint we taking this kid. He is raw. then my other half is sayin, dang well if we turnin kids down thats this good, Butch mus have some dirty dirty kids wantin to come play for him.... im hopin its the dirty dirty part. Id love to get the garrett kid

Does this still hold true in light of the AJC article? Coach doesn't sound too upset, but who knows. Jones has managed relations with HS coaches pretty well that I know of, the only anomaly was Jabo Lee's coach and Jabo later came out and said Tennessee had actually helped him.

If we are in great position with Garrett Taylor, that's awesome. Kid is 6'0+ with long rangy arms. Taylor packs a punch also. That would give us a legit pure cover corner with size.

Ya, seems like the Tucker coach either completely understands the situation or is putting on a really good face for the media. Either one is good with me. A GA HS coach who doesn't want to burn Tennessee in the media? That can't be that common...

Seems like this was handled about as well as it could have been. Props to the high school HC stepping up and taking this one.

That's how I read it as well. Coach took the hit for the whole thing. Hopefully TF did not cost us this one if it comes to needing/wanting to take him.
