'15 TN DE Dylan Jackson (former UT commit)

I agree with the mindset. The problem is some of these things work out and some don't. For every one that does and the player transitions to another position many more do not. Just look at UT the last 5-6 years. How many kids have been moved from WR to CB to RB back to CB and then back to WR or DE to DT to OL and then they transfer and they never seem to get any better? Why? Because moving a kid somewhere else never assures you of the kid being better at the new position. He's then lost all the time learning, adding/losing weight, and falls further behind. Next thing you know he's pushed aside to make room for the next new guy coming in and maybe they can try it all again and hope it works out this time.

If I'm a coach and I know I need OT help today, I'm not looking to sign DE's in those spots. Especially when the OG's/OT's I am currently working with don't seem to be getting any better. IMO, that is the biggest issue right now.

If a player is moved from position to position, most of the time it means that they just aren't talented enough to play high level D1 football. Not a difficult concept. If you have the talent, you can hone your craft as a DE or an OT. Sometimes it takes a while to develop, but supreme talent makes up for lost development time. You are really making this much harder than it is. I think you have that in your mind, and you are sticking to it.

Easy for a fan on a message board to say. It's not your career at risk. I can't blame the kid at all if he wants to play the position in college that he plays now in HS. He says WTH and just plays where they want to play him and he could be risking any hope he has to play in the NFL, IF that is a possibility for him. Why should a kid just agree to move to a new position before he even signs a LOI when many other schools like him at DE? So the fans can call him a "team player"? Give me a break. If the kid does not think he wants to be an OT, and or would not be happy doing it, why should he? It is his decision. I think it's clear with him planning visits to LSU and other places that the OT talk has him headed out the door and probably won't really matter for UT.

I have to agree with the Leb on this issue. Kid loves playing D-line. I wouldn't want to have to put on 75+ pounds to play a position I don't prefer either. Doesn't mean he isn't a team player, doesn't mean he wouldn't be open to a move if he couldn't crack the rotation on the defensive side of the ball. Just means he wants every opportunity to play at a spot he loves.

This is a different issue. If he doesn't want to play OT, that is purely his decision.

But, the debate about not being able to play OT is for a coach to decide. I think these coaches understand talent. Talented players can play multiple positions.

I don't have a Rivals subscription, but there's this headline...

Jackson quiet after LSU visit

Tennessee pledge Dylan Jackson visited LSU over the weekend. Just don't expect him to say much about how it went. There's a reason for that...

I really want a Tennessee boy anchoring the line when we win it all in 2017. Cal me nostalgic. It's the way I feel.

IMHO I just don't see him leaving his back yard due to a position change. If he does, so be it, but you would think a Tennessee kid would be willing to give his all to help restore his home state's institution back to prominence.

For one reason or another, the few major college prospects Maryville has ever produced don't end up at UT and if they do they usually transfer. This doesn't surprise me at all.

he says he won't be doing interviews out of respect to Tennessee coaches.

Looks like a flip is imminent here.

He told the LSU Rivals guy that out of respect for UT's coaching staff, he wouldn't be doing anymore interviews. He said he wanted to take some visits for fun, and that he's focused on his senior season.

That's the only news in the article. Take from that as you want.

Well if this is the given scenario, I doubt our coaches are doing much to counter. We need spots filled with kids willing to do whatever it takes to help our situation, and if this comes to fruition I'd say Dylan isn't willing to "give his all." JMO

There are a lot of ways to interpret this. He may also be wanting to avoid a negative backlash for as long as possible. Being from down the road and decommitting after 9 months just doesn't look good. He knows that he is going to catch some hell.

At DE I have no doubt Jackson would give his all. If his heart is not in it at OT, IMO there is no reason at all he should even consider it. It's just a Jason Carr situation waiting to play out. Much better for him to find a school who likes him on the DL where he wants to play.

His family is from Illinois and loves Notre Dame.

OT or DE he will probably be redshirting next yr either way to develop his body.

You mean like Barnett needed to? Jackson is ALREADY SEC DE size. Good grief, folks.

We have defensive ends coming out our ears. I want this guy at UT, but if he doesn't want to consider playing OT, then there are worse things that could happen regarding decommits.

Still want him to be a Vol, but not the end of the world if he goes to LSU.

Kid is a heck of a talent. Better than a couple of the other DE UT has committed which are smaller speed guys.
Would be a loss.
