I agree with the mindset. The problem is some of these things work out and some don't. For every one that does and the player transitions to another position many more do not. Just look at UT the last 5-6 years. How many kids have been moved from WR to CB to RB back to CB and then back to WR or DE to DT to OL and then they transfer and they never seem to get any better? Why? Because moving a kid somewhere else never assures you of the kid being better at the new position. He's then lost all the time learning, adding/losing weight, and falls further behind. Next thing you know he's pushed aside to make room for the next new guy coming in and maybe they can try it all again and hope it works out this time.
If I'm a coach and I know I need OT help today, I'm not looking to sign DE's in those spots. Especially when the OG's/OT's I am currently working with don't seem to be getting any better. IMO, that is the biggest issue right now.
Easy for a fan on a message board to say. It's not your career at risk. I can't blame the kid at all if he wants to play the position in college that he plays now in HS. He says WTH and just plays where they want to play him and he could be risking any hope he has to play in the NFL, IF that is a possibility for him. Why should a kid just agree to move to a new position before he even signs a LOI when many other schools like him at DE? So the fans can call him a "team player"? Give me a break. If the kid does not think he wants to be an OT, and or would not be happy doing it, why should he? It is his decision. I think it's clear with him planning visits to LSU and other places that the OT talk has him headed out the door and probably won't really matter for UT.
I have to agree with the Leb on this issue. Kid loves playing D-line. I wouldn't want to have to put on 75+ pounds to play a position I don't prefer either. Doesn't mean he isn't a team player, doesn't mean he wouldn't be open to a move if he couldn't crack the rotation on the defensive side of the ball. Just means he wants every opportunity to play at a spot he loves.
IMHO I just don't see him leaving his back yard due to a position change. If he does, so be it, but you would think a Tennessee kid would be willing to give his all to help restore his home state's institution back to prominence.
He told the LSU Rivals guy that out of respect for UT's coaching staff, he wouldn't be doing anymore interviews. He said he wanted to take some visits for fun, and that he's focused on his senior season.
That's the only news in the article. Take from that as you want.
Well if this is the given scenario, I doubt our coaches are doing much to counter. We need spots filled with kids willing to do whatever it takes to help our situation, and if this comes to fruition I'd say Dylan isn't willing to "give his all." JMO
