'15 TN DE Dylan Jackson (former UT commit)

Three-star defensive end Dylan Jackson of Maryville (Tenn.) High School, meanwhile, has decided not to be an early enrollee. Jackson has been committed to Tennessee since January but has continues to hear from a few other teams, including Stanford and LSU, which have hosted him on official visits over the past three months. Jackson’s decision to wait until next summer to enroll at UT could make the final months of his recruitment a bit more interesting, particularly if the Vols are able to add Phillips or Top247 defensive end D’Andre Walker of Fairburn, Ga.

I wonder if his decision to no longer be an EE has anything to do with seeing who else, if anyone, the coaches bring in at DE in this class. I really want to add one of Phillips or Walker (preferably Phillips bc I think he's going to be a beast and is a more complete player that Walker). But I hope it doesn't make Jackson rethink his commitment. I think Jackson is the most underrated commit we have in this class. He has the versatility to play outside and slide inside on passing downs. I also think he has the frame and potential to be a very good OT. I know he doesn't want to play there and it's his choice and future so he has to do what he thinks is best for him. I just think he could be a very good OT. Bring on the snarky comments about position changes.

I agree. If he would be willing to try OT then take him all day. I have no problems trading straight up for Phillips at DE as I think he is an absolute beast, and it would probably bring Amadi and an outside shot at pulling Richmond with him

247 hinting around that Jackson will go elsewhere if we land Phillips or Walker.

I'd hate to lose Jackson, just because I think he's a hell of a "jumbo" athlete and prospect. But with him taking other OV's the staff has no choice but to continue to pursue other DE's like Phillips and Walker. Him deciding not to be an EE tells me he is almost assuredly going to end up elsewhere.

I just wonder if him not being an EE has more to do with him not finishing school in time or us telling him we don't have the EE spot.

This news comes at the same time that we find out Jennings will probably EE. Could be that we told him we dont have the EE spot

I think it's more of him being unsure of where he wants to go at this point and giving himself more time to make a decision.

Also on the heels of us being in good shape for Phillips and Amadi, who are EE.

I think if this is the case, he may well wait himself out of a spot.

At this point the only way I think Jackson signs with Tennessee is IF UT misses on Phillips. Even then I'm not sure there are not other recruits CBJ might take in that spot. Him taking visits tells me he's about to lose that spot.

I like Jackson and would like to keep him especially since he could turn into a good player on either side of the line.

That being said, I won't lose a bit of sleep if he flips and we land Phillips and/or Walker.

DT - 5* KMac, 5* Tuttle 4* Picou

DE - 4* Butcher, 4* Phillips, 4* Taylor, 3* Ford

Filthy.

Maybe it's a situation where with Jackson & Taylor looking at other visits has both Phillips & Walker in play. May end up trading 2 for 2.

I don't know why. Walker might be an OLB like Maggit. And if we have plenty of depth at DE, he could move to TE like Jason Witten did. Lord knows we need depth there.

People keep assuming he'd be asked to move to OT. He's not even close to OT size right now. But he is perfect for an SEC TE, right now.

From what I have read Jackson is not open to a position change at all. He wants to play DE. I haven't watched much film on him, but I'm guessing he is the least talented of the ends that we have committed but the most versatile as far as being able to succeed at another position (TE or OT). Ford and Taylor are freakish athletes, and Butcher is one of the most polished high school DE's I've seen with a relentless motor. Plus we still have Phillips and Walker as possible commits, who are both absolute beasts. Jackson appears to be the odd man out in a very talented and deep recruiting class. All that being said, I hope he sticks to his commitment, but room has to made somewhere with the talent we still have left on the board. I don't envy coach Jones at all. Some hard decisions will have to be made.

Jackson is a baller. And that frame and wing span on a defensive end would be a huge benefit in the era of the zone read pass option offenses that are getting more and more popular. Plus, the kid has only known winning and championship habits while at Maryville. Uncanny ability to get to the ball. Great instincts. I just think his upside is huge.

Can he even catch the ball? I have not read anywhere that he has played any TE in HS. Yes, it's a transition some kids may be able to make. Just assuming he could go from DE to TE is not at all clear cut. IMO he would be fine at DE. If he were not being rumored to move to various other positions, he may not be taking other visits and likely to sign elsewhere.

TE must the favorite position by Volnation. Every recruit should be moved to TE rather than playing their current position in HS..

There's no doubt that DJ wants to play DE in college. I've read some articles lately (don't remember where) that said he is one of the most underrated players in the state this year and would move up in the ranking before NSD. Also read that if he adds 30 pounds to his 255 he would be unstoppable at DE. If he redshirts his Frosh year it would really help him since he's not going to be an EE. He would be a great addition to a 4-deep DE group for the Vols.

Yep, a lot of folks on here last year said Hurd would be a TE or LB or safety and that he would never play a down at RB.

Walker, Taylor, and Ford have nothing to do with Jackson. Their body types aren't the same. They won't be strong side ends. Butcher and Phillips are strong ends but Butcher committed before Jackson and he has known of our recruiting of Phillips for a long time. Any balk by Jackson, IMO, is all position related.
