'15 TN DE Dylan Jackson (former UT commit)

I'm not saying you're wrong, Leb. Some staffs are probably very, very strict about visits, especially for "replaceable" kids. But I think it's pointless for us to be... for lack of a better word... pissed at Dylan Jackson for taking visits and doing his due diligence. It doesn't mean he'll half-@zz it at Tennessee or anything, and some fans (the one that sparked this discussion) are acting like we should forget about him. Like he's spat in the face of the fanbase and is now forbidden from giving his all for Tennessee in the future.

But, yeah, it's easy for die-hard Tennessee fans to say "never would I ever take another visit if Tennessee offered."

If I am CBJ and a long time commitment decides to "take some visits" and I have a very capable replacement who would take that spot right now, I likely make that move.

I would tell kids the day they wanted to commit, "If you commit today, that tells me you are done with the recruiting process and are committed". Kid opens it back up, as a coach, so would I. Looking at the DE board, IMO there are some quality options there today. Would I have replaced Dylan who was a commitment and locked in? Not a chance. He opens it up to visits, Dylan likely signs elsewhere as I would fill that spot.

I would, if being recruited by UT, commit to UT on the spot; however, I would take officials to some beautiful schools and see some of the country. VIP tours with no expenses? Potentially a little cash and beautiful women? Plus I could recruit while I'm on these official visits.

"Just having fun on some free visits" (per the fans) have cost UT some quality recruits in the past. Commitment has to mean something. As a fan I actually value seeing UT recruits not "committed" and visiting all over the country. When I see other schools "committed" recruits doing this, I always question just how "committed" are they. IMO Dylan would be opening a door I'm not sure he should be opening IF he wants to be a Vol. We'll see what happens.

It's just strange logic to me.
Staff made a great evaluation on Dylan.
They sure as heck aren't scared to win a recruiting battle for a kid they want.
They're (probably) confident that he'll be a Vol.
If he's better than the potential replacements, thus making the class better, you stay the course and try to win the battle, rather than write the kid off.

"This is going to be hard. We really wanted this kid, but it isn't automatic anymore. Let's just let the class get worse."

It's a fair question

But doesn't mean they shouldn't be part of that school's class

That's a choice each kid has to make for himself. If you want to wait and take all the free trips, you may not have a spot. If I were actually unsure of where I wanted to play ball and needed to wait, I would. Taking the free trips just to take them all along claiming "I'm committed" is a bad idea IMO. If your committed, act like it. You want to play the recruiting game, you may be left behind. Dylan takes some visits and IMO his spot is very much up for grabs.

Nah.

Mouhon de commiting was more of a mutual decision made by both parties more than anything

It was a mutual decision after he decided to take an official to Cincinnati from what was reported. I remember 247 and VQ saying the staff pushed for him to cancel that visit, when he wouldn't they pulled the offer.

A person takes visits generally means their spot is no longer secured. Kids are too flighty to buy what they are selling.

Just trying to make sure I'm clear on where things stand today.

Dylan responded to LSU's interest via a phone call and got an offer from Chavis.

The LSU site reported that Dylan said that he is committed to Tennessee.

However, at this point, he is considering taking some visits because it could be exciting to see other parts of the country.

There has been no reported updates from any of the Tennessee sites (e.g., VQ).

Am I missing anything?
