'15 TN WR Van Jefferson

It's not a pissing contest.

It's logic vs illogical

Agreed. I just love that gif. I saw this in another thread. Kind of proves ur point.

Ohio States schedule doesnt seem to be hurting them!

You are thinking of the past. We don't lose to top 40 teams any more. Those days are over. Whatever you remember of the last 8 years... It's done. Adding Ohio state as an annual game would help and it would give us one more team to impose our will on. The talent we will have will beat anyone.

That wouldn't be a very bright scheduling maneuver.

Sometimes I wonder if Nationdom is colorblind and thinks his font is set to BLUE. Only explanation. I mean I'm a Vol homer too but dang pump the brakes a smidgen.

Looks like we are getting less of the high level Tennessee recruits than we did last year...thoughts on why?

1. We didn't want most of these guys?
2. Jalen/TKJr caused everyone to jump on board last year?

And who will be #1 & #2 - my mind is blanking. I assume Richmond is one of them...what about the other?

according to 247's composite top in tennessee its looking like we have a great shot to land 5 of the top 6. We akready have jennings and jones and lead for jefferson, phillips and richmond. looks like mcgraw is the only one we wont land. so id say were doin pretty damn good.

Also, we didn't seem to pursue any of McMillon, Harris, Sheffield, or Smith.

The last 2 were Vandy legacies.

We don't lead for Phillips

This. TN will always have a Top 5 schedule nationally regardless of the OOC opponents. At some point, it becomes pure stupidity on the part of an athletic department to overload a schedule like this year's is. And what's crazy is I think this OU series was scheduled after or around 2009 when the program was already a mess.

What Butch is doing right now with the future schedule is going to pay dividends though. We're not playing creampuffs but we're playing a regional opponent that is right in our immediate recruiting area(IE West Virginia, VaTech). That to me makes more sense than traveling across the country to play Oregon or Oklahoma.

We can move this to his thread, but who do you think leads? There's not a ton of info out there, but I'm getting a Bama feel right now. I also think if LSU continues to pursue him, they could be in the top 3 with UT at the end.

Most people think LSU will land Amadi, Phillips, and Perry

So you want to add a top ten team annually when we can't beat top 40 teams. Makes sense. It's not about being a pu**. If you don't think we will have headliner games then you're not very intelligent.

Your post might be more productive if you would use facts and not innuendos. And yes, we were better when we added a game like UCLA, Notre Dame, Cal, Miami, Syracuse, etc, because we attracted players who wanted to play in those games. Great players want good competition and headliner games.

Nobody knows what Philips will do yet. TN winning some games and going to a bowl would change that. LSU is biggest threat. If Franklin were at vandy they would be due to his mom but mason is so dumb he doesn't even know how to drive 10 minutes to visit a school with tons of talent

Totally agree. Those games are smart non-conference matchups because they are against quality opponents that are yet very winnable games for TN. Those are what top non-conference matchups should look like IMO. Jones gets it where the previous AD certainly did not.

I agree, in a way. It is better to schedule those games when you are still in a "rebuilding mode." Times have changed a bit because the SEC has gotten tougher.

However, UT made a living at playing OOC games all across the country when they were good- UCLA (Manning), Syracuse, ND, Miami. Part of the solution is to be a better football team, and these things don't become as apparent.

I think we should still focus on the surrounding area even when we get back to playing winning football consistently. Playing on the west coast really doesn't accomplish anything to me. Are we really I mean really going to pull players from there consistently enough for it to be a better strategy? Not to mention those games are a PITA to play in anyways from what I've heard though that maybe overplayed. When UT was good before most of the SEC was more watered down than it is currently.

I-dont-believe-you.gif

That was part of the Monticello tour I took a while back...no joke. :eek:lol: Ok, maybe a little bit of a joke, but it is the truth. Anyway, I think VAN Jefferson could be a hell of a football player at UT. Having a Dad like his would make for a very smart football player!

So we aren't already adding good teams? Va Tech isn't good? Oklahoma isn't good?

Danny Parker interviewed Van tonight. He will be deciding next week. Thinking about still taking officials to different schools, but will discuss that with whatever school's staff he chooses.

Van seems really torn even on when to announce. Hope he sees the value in playing at Tennessee and living in Knoxville as opposed to Columbus. Hope he chooses the VOLS soon and then focuses on having a really good Senior season.

I agree. Hope he picks the good guys but no clue as to who leads.

Ole Miss is a threat with Phillips because of Amadi

Yes, those are headliners. The comment was that we should ease up on OOC schedule and I say that is not beneficial to the program.

Those names will get a recruit's attention. Not OVC teams.

We have a hard time putting fannies in the seats playing Troy, Akron, Georgia State, and South Alabama. When you see a schedule like that people are generally checking the TV schedule for that Saturday and looking for a good game to watch. We can not even sell out lower level SEC games anymore. The last solid sellouts we had were Florida and Bama a couple of years ago.No wonder the athletic program is fighting to stay above ground financially.

Neyland hasn't had many sellouts lately because we've sucked, not because of our schedule. Once we're winning most of our games and competing for SECC's most games will be sellouts, even Troy, Akron, GSU and S. Bama.

No. The comment was to not schedule an annual with OSU
