I don't think Worley was right for our style offense. The pocket protection made less difference than worleys immobility. Dobbs had the same offensive line but he made it work. CBJ never even tried to organize around Worleys strengths. He pushed him right into the zone read and it was a square peg round hole situation. So again back to my original question was simply is QD the kind of QB that can make the offense work like dobbs is doing?
Pretty widely know we were trying to redshirt Dobbs and Worley was better than Peterman.
So I think CBJ does know his own system.
I understand that. So was it worth it to burn dobbs' redshirt? If so should he have burned it earlier in the season to have given dobbs even more time to develop? At the end of the day what would have been better for the program?
Dobbs would have never saw the field if Worley stayed healthy regardless of how this season went. Better? Hell IDK, I think going to a bowl game was important for this program, I think long term another year of eligibility for Dobbs and more weapons would have been better for the player and the program. I think that's what Butch was looking at in the big picture. Of course I'm just guessing like most of the fans are.
On your question yeah Dormady is a much more athletic guy for a kid his size. He posted an impressive shuttle time and has a decent 40 time. I think people are confusing what Jones wants out of his offense. Ideally you're not going to see a high percentage of QB runs anyways.
I don't get involved in recruit threads very often, but I'll offer $0.02 into the situation.
Worley was not a fit for this offense, but it also seemed like nobody ever took the time to try to train him up for the offense either. Like your round peg in a square hole analogy, it appeared the staff never tried to push him into being a more mobile QB. Or they did and Worley just didn't get it or didn't want to do it.
But in watching QD's Hudl film and others, he does seem like he is able to get outside the pocket and make plays with his feet. He appears more comfortable dropping back to pass, but has that ability to roll out and scramble when he needs to. Obviously there's a huge difference in HS and college ball so time will tell whether or not he can perform. But there's also the point they have him from a freshman where they can adapt him to the offense. He's not a junior like Worley was where he was fairly set in his ways. They can train him up at this point to being a more mobile QB. And with a redshirt year (maybe) and his EE gets that much more time to learn how to operate under the scheme.
Just some observations.

This. As long as QD can run the offense efficiently without turnovers he can play QB for CBJ. The only reason Dobbs runs so much is that he's not a consistent downfield passer yet.
The part I was missing was the mobility, which is a must for our offensive style. Things I read about him has him represented as more of a pro style great arm but without great mobility. I think that a true threat of a run from a QB is a must have for us as our offense is not geared around drop back passing. So apparently QD, in addition to the arm strength, is a true run threat is that correct?
You are so into yourself that you don't even get it...let me break it down for ya fella.
1. I did not know how mobile QD is. Worley doesnt have great mobility. He didn't work in CBJ system because of the limited mobility. So I was simply asking about QD's mobility. Having mobility seems to be a must for CBJs offense to function.
2. Was CBJ playing for this year or next? Everybody says trust butch (which I do completely). But it looked like he would've stuck with Worley the entire season had he not gotten injured and was forced to burn the redshirt. We may not have gone to or won a bowl if Worley stayed the starter. So was he making the right call for this year by keeping Worley in? You agree burning dobbs' redshirt got us a bowl win. So do you think staying with Worley so long was the right call? If so you are contradicting yourself.
Are you related to Tux? Or at the very least, do you eat dinner at Tux's table?

Sorry if this has already been mentioned. But the pic of QD yesterday showed him wearing #12, which is the same number Peterman wears. I saw earlier that it was confirmed Peterman is enrolled in grad classes which means he didnt transfer. Obviously a number swap easily explains this away but I hadnt heard anything. Does anybody have any info regarding this?
I think coaches telling us there was no one QB type for this system and then dressing Worley in a track suit to get broad sided as he feigned the run option is what fuels that fire. They spoke out of their ass (IMO) about fitting a pocket passer to this offense when in reality it was the inverse.I never cease to be amazed at the number of posters talking about how a particular type QB "is a must for our offensive style". I feel reasonably certain the coaches know what type QB they want and what skill sets. I also feel reasonably certain if they recruit and accept the commitment of a particular QB, then that QB probably has the skill set they want "for our offense".
There have been several great NFL quaterbacks that were recruited in college to play a different position and that were told by some great college coaches they would be better at a different position. Jim Kelly of the BB comes to mind. Don't count the kid out. He may surprise you.
