'16 JUCO WR Jeff George (UT commit 6/6/15)

Glad we were able to beat out Arkansas State.

Unless UTVOLKeith is usually a negative nancy or has been questioning this staff's recruiting, everyone needs to freakin calm down and give him a break for this comment. I thought it was hilarious.

It would be different if he didn't just randomly skip over the MS State, AZ State offers as if army st was his only offer. I don't question this staff on WRs. they def know how to evaluate that position and are usually in front of the pack on them.

I thought it was a good pickup. I don't see this guy being a superstar and that's ok. What we need is a tall guy that can consistently catch the ball. I think he can probably do that. The fact that he uses his body well is key since most teams have a db or two that are 6 foot or less. If he gets 25 to 40 catches a year, and some are in some key situations, ( maybe a big TD or two ) then it is a win for us with the players leaving after this year.

I agree completely, we don't need a number 1 receiver, he just needs to win the jump balls and be our red zone threat.

Tbh, this one doesn't make too much sense to me. I know he's tall and fast, but this years wr class is quality and might be the deepest we've ever seen. With limited space this year i just figured wr was the last spot we'd accept a Juco for.

I'm pretty sure they're looking for someone that can step in and be a strong part of the rotation, not go through a major learning curve. I think this guy has that ability. Losing Pearson, Howard, Johnson, maybe North... We need some guys that are READY to bring it! Welcome aboard, Jeff!

I agree that we should only take can't miss JUCO players. Then we can follow that up by only taking can't miss HS players. In a few years we will have all can't miss players, and if that happens, we can't miss!

Slightly more seriously, if a guy can wade through traffic, shield with is body, and outjump defenders for the ball in goal line situations, there is a place for him on a team. Butch may (or may not) be recruiting the guy as a goal line offense specialist. If a guy catches 10 passes in a season, but 8 are for touchdowns in orange zone, he is a player we want, even if he doesn't beat everyone on a deep post. If We play a dozen receivers in a game, they don't all have to excel at everything to be successful.

Von and Pig are definitely gone after this year. North could also potentially leave wary of he has a big year and stays healthy. Notice the depth chart if that happens

All the hand wringing right now hinges on what rating he gets from the recruiting services. If they ultimately land him at a 4-star or better, many of these same posters will return to express their excitement.

As for me, in CBJ I trust.

When will he be evaluated?

I'd like to know his true game speed. Be the difference in a "move the chains" possession guy and a legit "dominate the double team on a post pattern" guy, a la Randy Moss.

And no, I'm not saying he'll be Moss. Just that with decent speed he could be used like that.

I could still see North coming back even with a big year depending on team success. A shot at a National Title can make people come back despite draft status. Dobbs is one of his best friends so I for one am not counting out North for Sr Season if we have a big season team wise this year.

Is there a sentiment that his status is a top 3 round guy today? TBH I haven't seen that from him yet. I'd expect to have him his senior year barring something crazy happening this year.

LOL.

Very few, if any, kids are turning down a 1st round grade for a shot at a title.

And they are wise not to.

Based off potential and expectation he has a big year is why you see him in early Round mock drafts. if healthy he should have a big year now that he has a QB. We will a lot of weapons to distribute across so not a lock that it happens though.

Kiffin is no longer here.
Dooley is no longer here.

I have no problem with questioning decisions. Your post just appears to be bashing our coaches instead.

We now have a good staff.
Let's try rooting for them to succeed with our Volunteers
:hi:

Right on Doc! We know by now that when Butch zeros in on someone?...they're getting other offers...soon!

Guys - nothing has changed since the end of the season. It's not hard. Z stated to the media he was going after 4 receivers this cycle. They are loaded at slot, so they will probably be WR's. So one is a juco that is tall with good speed and catches in traffic with his hands (long arms) per the highlights. Tells you his future is the end zone and sideline routes. He needs to add 10-15 lbs. of muscle, learn the role, go play. That fills a need. That leaves 3 true freshmen to recruit and develop for the longer term.
