Also, we believe Simmons is very serious in saying he wants to take another visit to Tennessee. He and his coach have explored times and a way to make it back to Knoxville for another look. If they do make it at some point this month, consider that a good sign.

"Right now at this time, in no specific order, I got Mississippi State, Ole Miss, Alabama and Tennessee," he said. Everything is still the same. Everybody's the same, really no leaders."

Is there a pull for a Mississippi kid to stay home?

"Not really, because whatever is best for me," said Simmons. "A lot of people really don't know that I'm orginally from Louisiana, so getting out of Mississippi is not a big deal, but if staying in state is good for me, best for me, then that's what I'm going to go do."

Simmons talked about his relationships with his recruiters.

"I'm close with, I'd say Coach Bo Davis from Alabama," he shared. "I'm close with Coach (David) Turner from Mississippi State and Coach (Chris) Kiffin and Coach Barney (Farrar) from Ole Miss."

Is early playing time a factor in his recruitment?

"The depth chart is not really a big deal to me because I know the work ethic I have. I know, if I go in and put in the work, I can get on the field. Then again, I will look at the depth chart. I think I can really play going in...that's up to whatever school I go to, the coaches," said Simmons.

Article from yesterday on Ole Miss' 247 site. Apparently no mention of UT coaches when asked about his recruiters.

The following is from an article written two days ago by Callahan on UT's 247 site in which the info. was taken from the same interview that produced the above quoted article from the Ole Miss 247 site. This just shows how these sites can edit commentary from interviews in order to evoke the desired impression.

“When I went up there, I really enjoyed it,” said Simmons, who’s ranked the nation’s No. 35 overall prospect and No. 3 strongside defensive end in the 247Sports Composite for the 2016 class. “Just getting a relationship with Coach Strip (defensive line coach Steve Stripling). Everything’s just still great with them.

“Me and my coaches haven’t set the date yet,” he said of his return trip to Tennessee, “but we know we’re going to do it.”

“It was crazy. I really enjoyed it,” he said. “The facilities were nice. Everything just stood out to me — especially the facilities, and especially the indoor facility.”

“I talk to Coach Gillespie,” Simmons said. “He’s originally from Mississippi, so we’ve just got that relationship. And me and Coach Strip, we probably talk every week. We’re building a great relationship.”

Simmons said the Vols have continued to talk with him about “being able to play on all downs” in their defense, “especially coming off the edge. They said they could use me something like (Tennessee defensive end Derek) Barnett, coming in as a freshman,” Simmons said. “They just want to make me an All-American.”

You don't bring your family hundreds of miles from home to visit a campus before signing day if you're not serious about going there.

This might be more than just a long shot.

I think if Shoop becomes our new DC, we will be getting a lot more looks from top defensive prospects like Simmons. I'm excited. lol

Simmons' senior stats: 105 tackles, 20.5 TFL, 21 QB hurries, 18.5 sacks, 5 pass break-ups, 3 blocked extra points, 2 blocked punts, 2 forced fumbles, 2 fumble recoveries and 1 INT in leading Noxubee County to its 3rd state championship in 4 seasons.

I am going to go way out on a limb here and say this will be Shoop's biggest pull this cycle. I think we convince him to visit on his own dime the last weekend before signing day, and Shoop shows him what he did with the walk on at PSU. Then, Shoop says, "just think of what Strip and me can do with you."

Would be huge. Imagine finishing with this kid, Brown, and Warrior on signing day. Those guys and Osborn would combine to make a nucleus of defensive playmakers around which a championship caliber defense can be maintained.

If we got Simmons, Brown, Dickerson, Warrior, and a more highly touted WR than what we have in this recruiting cycle I would deem this class a success.
