'16 TN LB Tim Hart (FORMER UT commit 6/26/15)

Unless I missed on someone it looks like there are 3 commits who have not taken an official visit and don't show one scheduled to UT. Hart, Pope, and Brooks.

JMO. Hart - we know why now. Pope is local - doesn't need one and tells Butch to use it on another recruit. Brooks is just happy to still be committed with his injuries and has been there on an unofficial. Scott will be the decider on him.

If we did not drop him then no Kyle Phillips. We lose guys like that and don't win games then you will want to fire the coach. You either build a program for championships or you don't. It's a business.

The disappointment many here have it seems is that we Shouldn't take those kids in the first place. Then there would be no reason for your post.

Butch is a boss in recruiting and is going to get his guys. No doubt about it. So why the take the lower kid so early in the process

If we need a lower kid late in the process just go flip a kid.

Because Butch wants to stay near the top in rankings for perception.

If he didn't take commits early then the fanbase would be groaning in July when we are 35th in recruiting.

This is what recruiting has turned into. The kids shop themselves around and coaches started doing the same.

Does a 3star committed in the summer really make the rankings that much better?

I would have assumed not

That's just silly reasoning. Butch Jones takes three star recruits in June and July so the fans don't groan. Meanwhile the fans are groaning about taking three star recruits and being in the twentys in class ranking all year.

I do not remember those officials either, but I find it hard to believe that we will take 3 blue shirts this year. Obviously, this would help us for this years class with only 3/4 spots left depending on the status of Hart. But, that will be 3 spots lost on next years class. Based on everything I have read, 2017 is a huge year in state and around the Southeast, for highly rated prospects that we are in good standing with. Blue shirts are like borrowing money on your house from a title company. If you keep doing it, it will catch up with you.

Be surprised if we take any blueshirts.

JMO, but I think Butch is keeping a few guys from taking officials in case more elite players want in than we have space. That way we don't have to cut ties with recruits if they're willing to blue shirt for the good of the team.

I know it could backfire on guys in theory like Bruce and Oliver, but they both did things to ruin their chance of being on this team.

You'd be wrong. Kentucky has even used the same tactic to create a buzz in recruiting. If you have more commits than everyone else, you're gonna be ranked higher than most teams.

I think once UT returns to prominence you won't see as much of this but the reality is that we needed the positive buzz. We also don't have a huge instate recruiting base to fall back on the way schools such as Florida do. Schools like Florida always finish strong because there's just too much talent right outside their door. They have this reputation for closing strong and their fanbase understands that and probably even expect it at this point.

Ever think they might take a commit in June or July because they just had a great sophomore or junior year. Then they don't get any better their senior year. Some kids mature a different rates and reach their peaks at different times.

Some kids peak as sophmores or juniors then don't progress. You have to recruit kids early today, that's just the way it is now. How many times do you hear, this kid is 6'1 210 as a sophmore he will be 6'3 240 by the time he gets to UT. Well some kids never grow anymore and never get any faster. They just matured earlier then everyone else cought up.

Was just about to say this. Butch/Bobs are known for getting kids early....then the kid taking off and shining and getting offers from everyone. On occasion, the young man doesn't live up to expectations during their Senior year.

"Thanks for nothing, coach."http://www.nj.com/rutgersfootball/index.ssf/2015/12/rutgers_freshman_defensive_end_marques_ford_to_tra.html

Dude was a 4 star recruit. He didn't need any help getting into Rutgers.
Jones did him dirty. Period. Allowed the kid to spend a weekend at an all-star event, hanging with other UT commits, repping the big orange the whole time, and them dropped him the next week.

This day in time, if Butch really slighted someone, they'd take to Twitter. The incredible access to communication outlets plus the severe lack of anything anti-Butch with Ford and others tells me it was understood by the player that there was more to his commitment than a simple yes from the get go.

I don't see the big deal..... If butch really has given out three git shirts then that means that recruiting is going really well.

We aren't. We've struggled to stay inside the top 25 in recruiting to this point. If we had spent the fall with 12-13 commits, people would be losing their minds. And imagine we are 40th in recruiting and we had lost a game down the stretch to finish 7-5.

Maybe 2017 we will be in a position where we can stay at the top without having to take kids we feel like we are going to recruit over.

I think another factor is that kids sometimes don't develop as coaches predict.

We have struggled to stay high the rankings because of numbers not quality.

Our average star per recruit was still very strong last I checked on it

How'd you get in Butch's head so well?

Good point. This is just my take on what is happening.

I thought that was clear.

I guess we should just do what Bruin is suggesting and only take kids that we are 100% on board with and turn away better players because we are out of room.

I believe Bruins take is just don't take a commitment from the number 9 WR on your board in June if the plan is to take 3 WRs and the other 8 are uncommitted or still considering options. I think it makes perfect sense.

Hart gets a prediction to Memphis on 247.

I saw Nate Johnson is taking OVs to PSU and ND over the next couple weeks. Wonder if he's still considering options.

Johnson just got prediction flip to ND on 247.
