'16 TN LB Tim Hart (FORMER UT commit 6/26/15)

So I guess u think its ok if a recruit does the same thing to a school. Maybe hart didn't progress or do what he had to do to get better and keep his spot. Your prob the guy that gets mad at coaches for losing but don't agree with cutting a guy for a better prospect...

I don't think he stated any opinion on the matter. I'm indifferent to upgrading and cutting guys. I don't like it but to be elite it has to be done so I understand. But to act like this won't burn a bridge at MUS is playing dumb.

Butch could call a 5pm press conference and tell everyone he stopped calling Hart, didn't respond to Hart calling him and he dropped him a month ago but didn't bother to tell him because he took his commitment too early and ran out of spots 2 weeks till NSD.

The same people saying you're only seeing one side of it, would be fine with what Butch did. Saying we don't know is just a way to try and justify it.

I just posted that Fortenberry said we offered a Blueshirt. He didn't want to do that. He left because he didn't want to Blueshirt.

don't try and tell Leb that...

He didn't cotton to us picking up 3 QBs this last class either...ended up with just one and one coming in...but a lot of squawking before he fell into that Hawaiian volcano. :)

Fortenberry said Hart was given the option to Blueshirt and did not want to do that.

Why would they not be upfront and let a kid know that they will take as committ at time but there is potential that they could need them to blueshirt as numbers become tight to allow the team to get better and take more guys? Being upfront helps lower the effect of negative news in future. It's not like he had a ton of options before to where it would have turned him off at the time.

Could be that they got back his senior film and he did not progress like the staff had projected, and therefore things changed. No idea, just a guess

If that's the case. Reports were they offered Nate Johnson a blue shirt as well. Have you seen our WR recruiting? Yeah, I'm not buying it. Fort doing damage control for Butch on both fronts.

Same people wouldn't want him getting the program an infraction for commenting on an unsigned recruit. :)

Because he never would have committed in the first place.

One of these days Butch and Co. will learn not to take a commitment from a kid they think is lower down their board. I think the negative PR has to start hurting at some point.

BUT, who is to say that honestly they liked his game better off Jr on Soph tape and he just didn't develop like they thought. Bad evaluations can happen.

Just because this happened doesn't mean they were plotting to possibly drop him from day 1.

I agree. If they change the offer last minute to a blue shirt it's because they know the kid is likely walking. Tim's reaction tells me it wasn't a blue shirt offer when he got it.

Sorry. Didn't know you already knew the whole story. I will let you continue to sh** all over the thread.

Yeah don't take them if they are borderline that early. We shouldn't have to do that anymore. Burning bridges like crazy with this stuff. That's 3 instate guys in less than a year. You don't want to burn bridges instate.

We know that's not the way he handled Jerome Dews last year. This feels a lot like the Dews situation.

So Butch accepts commitments from unknown 2 stars who subsequently blow up into 4 or 5 stars, and he is a genius? But when Butch accepts a commitment from an in-state guy who they feel has potential to improve but then doesn't, Butch simply hasn't yet learned?

If y'all hadn't been paying attention, most of the guys similarly let go have been busts elsewhere. Just let the man do his job.

NO! We should keep them so we can suck again!

And as for the whole "burning in-state bridges" thing, Butch is kinda in a no win situation. It seems that he tries to give some of the in-state talent the benefit of the doubt, accepting some marginal commitments that don't pan out. Is it better to just blow off the in-state talent that doesn't measure up, or to continue to try to give preference with calculated risk? I certainly don't know the answer, but I don't think he is a) unaware, or b) stupid.

Not saying he is wrong from a talent Eval. Saying if your going to burn bridges you better do it outside of the state in a place you don't need to recruit Often. Doing it instate and in Memphis is just not very smart. Memphis coaches at other schools will take offense to this move as well.

Don't take the commitment in first place. Tell them you want to watch their growth sr yr or accept them as a silent. The public embarrassment part is what pisses people off

I suppose it's fine if you see our instate recruiting. 3 out of 21-22. You don't have to worry about burning bridges if you never bother to cross them.

We need mid-state and the states to the south and east far worse than we need Memphis. And don't underestimate the power of winning championships while featuring a MUS guy on the offensive line.

Fell. Pushed. Thrown. There is no proof one way or the other. :ninja:

I agree. Don't take them in June if you're pushing to recruit over them and pushing them out before they even get the commitment tweet written.

If you don't want to blueshirt that's fine, but there's no need to write a long note that underhandedly bashes the staff. Just write that you've decommitted and be done with it. Nobody else needs to know what happened outside of you, family, and the coaching staff
