'16 TN OL Bryce Mathews (Ole Miss commit)

1:45 from Nashville to Houston on Southwest.. Parents can afford it 8 times a season

They could easily afford it that family is royalty down there. Probably land a helicopter on the fifty yard line right before opening kickoff if they wanted to

I think so.

A&M losing one of their highly rated OT's and then quickly extending the offer to Bryce has him committing very soon IMO. Just too much in the Aggies favor here.

You may be right, Leb.

I still think with RJ committed and being the state school we're a serious factor.

When did you speak to him today? Seems to be the prerequisite for common sense in this thread

At Jason's Deli. Gunner Kiel and myself were discussing the Vols and Bryce and his dad walked in. I asked what they were doing in Knoxville and Bryce said that he promised CBJ "the last visit" before he committed.

He Gone.

I spoke to his dad yesterday. He said UT was not behind anyone and that Bryce was wide open at this point. Was he lying? Maybe so. Common sense is a great thing and you're probably right. I remember this same discussion surrounding last year's BA recruit. As soon as Derek Barnett got that OSU offer it was ovah...oh yeah that's right it wasn't. Carry on.

Derek's grandad whom he may or may not have been close with went to OSU and OSU pushed for a commitment for a bit then backed off.

Bryce has how many ties to aTm? Not just that but all of them being offensive lineman, a recent first round draft pick, etc.

I appreciate you bringing info. I wish it didn't take my assumptions to bring it out. I like what you bring to the board, you know that hopefully. I was just busting your balls. I knew you had something.

That being said, there's not a surer commitment in the '16 class than Bryce to aTm at this point IMO. Kid will go there and do what Jake did. RT after a possible RS and then late in his career LT. He and Little will be scary like Joeckel and (Jake) Matthews were. Their OTs now are solid too honestly

I can't disagree with anything you said because it makes sense. A lot of sense, unfortunately. This of course is not what they are telling us or the UT staff but they are a classy family and they respect UT and I'm sure don't want to hurt feelings since there are so many UT alums in the BA family.

FTR, Derek was not close to his grandfather and OSU only backed off when he told them he was not interested and was not coming there and that they were wasting their time. Still there were folks on this board that shouted OSU lock at every opportunity which couldn't have been further from the truth.

Yeah just because a school isn't for you doesn't mean you should disrespect it. I'm sure they do love UT, there's really nothing to not love.

Interesting. I didn't think Derek was, but you never know. I knew OSU really pushed hard at one point, I had no idea when or why they backed off. Thanks for that info. Derek seems to be one of the most game ready of any kid we got, for a DE that's not only impressive but relieving as well. We got us a good one. We also started repairing relationships at BA (Ensworth and MBA too) which is beyond good. If we can get a kid a year give or take from each, that will be awesome.

you do realize Jake and Bryce aren't related... Jake is Bruce Mathews' son...Bryce is Jason Mathews' son... Who also played for the Titans...no relation

Um what? Really? I could have swore they were cousins...

Good info. I had no idea either. I Googled it and they actually spell their last names differently. Bruce and his brother Clay spell it Matthews and Jason of course spells it Mathews.
