'17 FL RB Timothy Jordan (UT signee)

If the worst recruiting class Butch has is this years top 15 recruiting class then I think we'll be alright...

Nope. We are right down there at number 60 with Vandy. Haven't you heard.

Vandy Recr Classes
2017 - Currently 60
2016 - 53
2015 - 46
2014 - 46
2013 - 26

Tennessee Recr Classes
2017 - Currently 10
2016 - 14
2015 - 4
2014 - 7
2013 - 24

2013 was the last time they were even close to us. We screwed the pooch against them last year between poor play and injuries. Recruiting wise they can't compete. If Butch is gone after this coming year, he will at least have recruited his butt off for us and should be thanked for that if for nothing else.

NB4 only a sheep thinks like this.

Could be a solid kid but not a risk we should have to take. Rivals has him at 2* and 247 at 3*, he doesnt have many power 5 offers to speak of either.

Vols should be consistently pulling down greater talent at the skill positions.

Maybe he didn't camp and thus didn't get "evaluated". LSU Dad did a scathing video about the recruiting services and their pay to play camps. If you don't camp with their camps then they put your eval on the bottom of the stack and maybe they'll get to you. They make the kids come to them instead of them going out and finding the talented kids. When a talented kid pays for their camps they will push his eval and make him seem like the best in the history of the world. Lots of great players that either can't get to camps, can't afford camps, or simply go to the "wrong" camps.

offer list sucks...
not enough stars...
too far down the list...

Whereas that may all be true to some here, his highlight reel reveals a tough runner with exceptional vision. He's a take.

Was this post needed? Wouldn't one of the 30 or so clones of it that have already been posted sufficed. Jeez, y'all know how to crap on a kid's commitment day.

I agree 100%
Differing opinions have never bothered me much. But I've never seen the need for keyboard drama queens to come in and just piss all over a kid's big day. Especially one who wanted to come here.
When it comes to your sports team, I just can't imagine it gets much lower than that.

In Robert Gillespie I trust. Kelly is gonna be a beast next year and everyone said oh no... must just be a 3 star for depth... won't crack the line up or make a difference.

What risk? We have a proven starter in Kelly. A highly rated recruit in CFA. Chandler is our star running back of this signing class. If the other 2 can provide depth, then again I ask, what risk? If they develop into stars, gravy.

We're only ranked so high at the moment bc of quantity not quality. FYI top 15 is like 6th or 7th in the SEC in other words not good enough. We'll finish between 15-20.

You guys keep saying that but nsd is mighty close and we seem to stay in the same place...

I could understand this if we didn't have Chandler committed. He is a high level 4 star. In this day and age, it is difficult to land more than 1-2 high level players at a position that only plays one on the field.

John Kelly was only a 3 star with very few Power 5 offers. He did have offers from Michigan and MSU but not sure how strong the Michigan offer was.

Second coming of Le'Veon Belll prolly

I'm not being sarcastic, but I think he looks a lot like Lesean McCoy. His straight-line speed probably isn't elite, but his vision and change-of-direction skills are. I also love the disco-style finger celebration as he goes into the endzone; every RB should have a personalized TD celebration.

Exactly. Even if the recruiting services weren't so corrupted by weighing camp performances so heavily, I think many of them are biased towards prospects that hit puberty earlier. The services don't want to lose face by dramatically rearranging their player rankings, when that's absolutely what should happen given how drastically most players change from their freshmen to senior year.

Ignore the rankings, this kid's tape is for real.

Fake news. 247 and Rivals disagrees with you.

I do think his film is good though. I trust Gillespie.

Purdue also extended an offer to him, and Florida was among the other schools that showed interest in him within the past couple of months.

UF has been after a lot of our commits lately.

Lol I never said he was offered. What I did say was that he was visited and recruited by staff from Florida which is true. I'm more excited for Jordan than Coleman honestly.

I get the underlying distaste for this, but if you take a step back from the hate, I find it a bit hard to blame the services for this. Is it a perfect system? No, but they have to do something. Economic realities dictate they can't possibly have the manpower to see every kid play live. They also can't hire enough people to watch EVERYONE's film (only D4H has the time for that).

Let's be honest, these companies aren't exactly rolling in money. 99% of people get their paid content for free, so they've got to find a way to generate some revenue or they wouldn't even exist for us to criticize.

Getting as many guys as possible to come to them allows them to maximize the eval hours that they do have. They can control the talent pool and the conditions so it makes for an eval event that the service feels is best.

No, every guy can't afford to camp, and that's a reality. However, in the same fashion, Rivals and 247 can't afford to send a scout to every football game in America. Is there bias? Of course, but that's just the nature of any subjective rating system. I don't think it's fair to make the services the bad guys just because every player can't manage to get to a camp because the services have the exact same problem...

Ummmm we've got 27 players committed, which is definitely near the most of any school at the moment and we are in 10th. There's schools with 19 commits rated higher than us so yes when the other schools fill their classes up we will fall. It's pretty simple logic actually. 22 3 stars is pathetic.

As unhappy I am about yet another 3*, after watching his film I think he may be a perfect fit for CBJs system.

I get the hate for all the 3*'s, trust me I'm right there with you in being upset with this class.

But rankings aren't based on the entire class. So all those saying we are only ranked where we are is because of the volume of players are wrong. I think its only the top18-22 that actually count towards the ranking and the rest don't affect anything.

AFter saying that I will say that we will most definitely fall out of the top 10 after signing day with all the 4-5* players that will commit to other schools that day. The only chance of not falling into the 20's is because Trey Smith may be enough to keep us in the 14-18 range. Now if he decommits we would probably end up in the low 30's.

This wouldn't be a bad class in most conferences. But in the SEC it's between 6th and 8th. It's just the unfortunate reality of it

Obviously Etienne was the flashy name we all wanted, but he's a heavy LSU lean and we couldn't afford to get left empty handed on NSD.

REALLY glad we got this kid on board. He was my next favorite of all the guys available. I like the way he finishes his runs. If either he or Coleman can push for that 3rd RB spot, we'll probably be solid at RB in 2017. And that will be really important to help out our new QB ( whoever wins out)

Florida, FSU, and Miami must've let one slip by.....at least Florida A&M offered

Fundamentally, I agree with you. That is why the whole "stars" and "ratings" thing isn't a great metric for a kids talent or potential. I think lots of people put way too much stock in that. It is good enough that you can't completely ignore it, but too unreliable to take it as gospel.

Offer list is a better way to judge. Most of Butch's 3 stars have good offer lists. There are a few exceptions though
