'17 WV OT Billy Ross (UNC commit)

Kids got a nasty streak to his game. OL is one position I think 3* players can be found and developed. Unlike skill positions, OL doesn't always get the pub and* 's it should.

I agree that OL can be developed and Ross would be a nice addition if we already had some elite players committed. My problem is that we are building our whole class around these 3 star players. Also, not to slam West Virginia but it isn't exactly a football factory state.

If you can't land the elite kids, you've got to take the ones you feel you can develop and coach up. Obviously we can't just look at it and say if we can't get the elite guys, we don't want any of them.

Just hate to see us dropping off to the level of Kentucky where we can't attract elite players anymore but I understand what you are saying.

Alot of these kids will get bumped between now and NSD.Butch and the Bob's have great skill in selecting these kids.We will be fine.

Mr. Ross is not a KY recruit imo. Very good football player w a lot of potential and could be very good in this system given 3 yrs or so in the program. Which he would have. He is SEC starter potential imo

It's July. NSD is February. Take care of business this Fall and we'll have a top 10 class. Not sure why people continue to doubt Butch's recruiting ability. He's built a power house team in 3 full years and 2 months of recruiting. Not too shabby.

I didn't doubt his ability to recruit until this year when he has just fallen off the map. At this point I don't see any way we can have a top 10 class. This will be Butch's worst class since he has been here. That is what really troubles me because we lose a ton of talent this year.

I think you're making a premature judgement as mentioned above, it's July. You're discounting 3 great years of recruiting because of what this class look like 7 months from signing day.

I guess it depends what each persons definition of great is. If ranked 14th is great, no problem.

Not looking at ranking. Looking at the team this year and how talented the team is. Hard to argue against what Butch has built in 3 years and 2 months of recruiting. Agreed?

Butch has done just fine building the depth chart. I mean he's signed around 80+ kids. Literally a full scholarship roster.

I'm confident we win this year. I think the SECE should be ours.

That said, I like following recruiting and what I see looks like a staff really struggling.

That is true. Being 14th in the nation also means finishing 7th in the SEC. Last year's class was really not that great when compared to our rivals.

It's about winning right? Not class ranking. Butch's win totals have gone from 5 to 7 to 9, with 2 blow out bowl wins. Please remember the state of this program when he arrived. And now 4 years later we are Sec / national title contenders.

That's part of my concern. 5-7-9 wins. Great bowl showings. Improvement. Media saying UT is a contender. Butch has LOTS to sell. It looks to me like recruits in this class, aren't buying.

I agree that to this point recruiting has not gone as planned. But to make final judgement about this class at this time of the recruiting cycle is premature. Win the East and get to Atlanta and this class will finish just fine.

It's tough going back and reading some early threads about how recruiting was teed up to explode this year just after NSD. The Foster thread was bad. Our resident insiders proclaiming they expected 6-7 5*'s in this class. Tough to read.

I agree. But Butch up to this point has given no reason to believe that he will deliver a class that will compete and win. I mean reports coming out today I think are saying 2-3 of our receivers from the 2016 class are pushing to start. One being Johnson who was an under the radar guy.

There were some quality guys in the last class. I'd also temper the expectation a bit. Anyone who isn't new to UT football knows the preseason breakdown of the newcomers just before camp ALWAYS ramps up the hype. I still remember when they claimed E. Mosley had added 20+lbs in a month. Game 1 he looks like a stick and had literally put on like 4-5lbs.

You'll never see them release stuff like the WRs look slow, the DL looks flabby, and the OL appears to have girly legs. Just not happening. LOL

Ha, very true. I do think though that the receivers from 2016 class will be a pleasant surprise. Callaway, Byrd, Johnson, Williams with Guarantano throwing it to them I think will be fun to watch.

It was a very solid group of WRs, even without Henderson. I'd prefer Dormady starts in 2017. He's had the time in the system.

I think Dormady is going to do very well. He's thrown some absolute dimes in gameplay. I like Guarantano when he's a junior and these receivers are juniors and seniors.

"Some of you have asked about West Virginia offensive lineman Billy Ross. Ross will make his decision on the night of the 31st about 11:30 with his Huntington team taking to the field at the stroke of midnight to kickoff fall camp. Ross is and will play things close to the vest the next few weeks but we expect him to make a trip to his college of choice about a week out of his decision. He has family in North Carolina, but he also always has Tennessee on the brain due to his head coach, Billy Seals, a Morristown native. The dialogue has continued to be really good with Billy for Tennessee since his second visit near the end of June."
