'18 TN QB/WR Alontae Taylor (UT commit 6/18/16)

I'd like to add that probably get some feathers ruffled by saying this, but he's on a worse team than M. Gray he makes the best of the situation every week. Shows up on film and when you watch in person. Play makers find a way to make it happen.

There! No "ruffled feathers" and your USEFUL information/points get communicated. :good!:

“We have a lot of guys we’re trying to get to come here. Brendon Harris, I’m working him. Talking to Jaylon King (Ensworth), guys like that. We’re going to keep recruiting. We didn’t have any commitments today, but I feel like some guys are getting closer.”

Tennessee certainly isn’t taking Taylor for granted either, making it known to the 4-star prospect that he remains a focal point of the 2018 class — even though he’s been committed for months.

“It’s really important. It shows a lot of loyalty of what they like about me,” he explained. “It shows that they respect me and respect my decision. I’m a high school kid, too. I’m going to put out those offers when I get them. I’m not going to just hide them. It’s a blessing to get those offers, but at the end of the day, it’s also a blessing to have those coaches to hold you down and let them know they’re here for you.”

This class is going to be what we all thought the 2017 class would be imo. I think they'll rack up in state this year

Well... at this point. He's a vol.

Maybe he suddenly becomes a great football player.

Physical tools are there...

Yup. I also think this year's instate class is much better OVERALL than last year. 2017 might have better top-end talent but 2018 is way deeper.

I think we end up with 12 4* star instate recruits:

DT Greg Emerson
DT Brant Lawless
DT D'Andre Litaker
OT Cade Mays
OT Maxwell Iyama
WR Alontae Taylor
WR Camron Johnson
WR Tykee Ogle-Kellogg
RB Master Teague
DB Brendon Harris
DB Jaylon King
TE Gavin Schoenwald

I think you are right but I also think it depends on how we look on the field this year.

No. The 2018 class will actually be decided in April at the NFL draft.

If Barnett and Kamara go in the first round as most mock drafts suggest. And if Cam Sutton and Josh Dobbs can go soon after. And if we also get Josh Malone and JRM drafted, it will do wonders for our recruiting class.

Recruits want to get to the NFL. They want to know you can develop NFL talent. What hurt us in 2017 wasn't our play in October, it was the fact we didn't have any players drafted the last two years.

A big day this April and we'll have a great 2018 recruiting class even before the season kicks off in the September.

That looks great but I can't see us realistically signing half of our class with instate recruits. I'm thinking 8-9 max.

Agreed, also we have better coaching across the board this year. Definitely a better recruiting staff.

All those instate players are high caliber recruits. 10 of the 12 are already considered 4-5 star recruits.

I think we have 12 instate players in the class of 2018 and 14 players from outside the state of Tennessee.

To your above point, I still think there is no denying that losing to two lower tier teams and squandering opportunities for the East/Sugar Bowl must have at least hurt us in recruiting some. It gives fuel to other teams and makes it easier to negatively portray us.

That being said, I do agree with you that getting 3 or 4 draft picks would definitely help us a TON.

It has been years since we've had a draft pick. If we can show we are back to producing NFL talent, it makes it a lot easier to sell our program obviously.
