2009-10 Offseason Discussion

The Mets have entered the Jason Bay sweepstakes; they offered 4 years for 60 mil. The Red Sox are not surprised that they have.

The Texas Rangers thought they were going to get their catcher in John Buck but they were beaten by the Toronto Blue Jays due to more money. The Rangers need a stable catcher due to health problems with Salty. Unless they bite on a few catchers who want two year deals, they are SOL.

Still trying to understand the Rule 5 draft!! I have not got the concept.

Basically anyone with over 3 years minor league service time who is not on the 40 man roster can be selected, but they need to remain on the drafting teamS MLB roster foor the entire season.

How long have they been a doing this?
This is from Wikipedia, so it must be true.
Prior to its current incarnation, from 1959 until the creation of the Rule 4 draft in 1965, top first-year prospects of teams were exposed to the rule 5 draft. This was in some ways an outgrowth of the Bonus Rule that existed in 1946-50 and 1953-57.[1]

The Red Sox may not be done with their acquisition department as they are in talks with OF Mike Cameron as a versatile backup in the outfield. If this goes through, this may signal the end of Jason Bay as they can platoon him and Jeremy Hermida.

Definitely knew Halladay would end up in the NL. He's going to lose some velocity going forward, but he's still a great pitcher and all good pitchers can tear up the NL. It looks lie the Phils are giving up a crazy amount in return though.

And may pay him up to 20 mil a season.

The Dodgers finally addresses the outfield logjam by trading speedster Juan Pierre to the White Sox. This trade may end the Pale Hose attempt to re-sign Scott Posednik.

The Mets are in serious negotiations with Jason Bay: the proposal is similar to what the Red Sox offered

Padres 1B Adrian Gonzalez is lately been a subject of trade rumors. One possibility: The Red Sox but are they willing to give up Bucholtz (sp) and Ellsbury?
