2012 Silly Season Discussion

DONE DEAL? Edwards says the only contract he's signed was his last one with Jack Roush three years ago. Whether there's a current contract or not, the latest scuttlebutt has Edwards driving the #20 Home Depot Toyota for Joe Gibbs Racing in 2012 for a staggering amount of money -- $8 million as a base, plus a $10 million signing bonus.(FoxSports)(7-31-2011)

I'm sure he knows at this point. Hope it doesn't leak until after the season, or if he ever gets out of contention.

Most teams try to wrap deals up by mid Aug. I don't see them keeping quiet till the end of the year. I would guess that if he is leaving it will be announced by the end of the month.

They had 3 cars in the chase the last year Tony drove the 20 car. That's the only year they've had 3 proven drivers.

That's true, but I don't think we are going to see those three teams all be on the same level at the same time on a yearly basis.

Also, we'll see just how far Carl's performance drops now that the rumor's are in full swing. He may have went from being Jimmie's biggest competition to just another contender because of the circumstances.

Why do you feel that way? Why him more than Logano?

I think Gibbs has poured too much into Logano and brought him to Sprint Cup too quick to cut him loose before seeing his full potential. He'll go to four cars to keep Logano around just a bit longer.

I think his decision is made, just doesn't want to kill the team's momentum by announcing his leaving. If he were staying, I think he would say so now to keep team morale up.

Exactomundo. My thoughts as well.

How good can the #20 car be?
Is it Joey that is stinking it up, or is it the 3rd best car in the stable? Kind of excited if this comes to fruition.

Supposedly he will be holding a press conference at Atlanta to announce his move to JGR.

Must be a lot of money. Other than that, I don't get it.

Moving on from Roush didn't really work for Kurt Busch (on track anyway).

...on to the next one.

not like sticking around helped Matt Kenseth or Greg Biffle either.

I don't know.... Kenseth is just consistent. Biffle is hot and cold. I think that's pretty much who they are.

Anyway...where would they go where they wouldn't be the 2nd or 3rd wheel on a team anyway?

Red Bull? MWR? GEM?

I could see SHR. But other than that, not that many options for contending teams.

That would make sense with Home Depot headquarters being here. I'm not so sure his decision can be kept under wraps that long. That's a little late for other teams to try to start working out deals if they are waiting to see that Carl does.

Danica Patrick is close to finalizing a deal to run the full Nationwide schedule with JR Motorsports and a partial Cup schedule with SHR.
