I was talking to an iRacing network buddy (a NASCAR Cup spotter) the other day. I haven't saw it reported online about the $$$ amount but he was complaining about Roush/Edwards and their sponsorship deal. Was saying that many teams can run with a $20 million primary sponsor budget and run competitively. Next year Edwards will likely have this laundry list of sponsors:
Fastenal - new deal
Subway
Aflac
Scotts
Kelloggs
UPS
He was basically saying that Roush next year could get upwards of $50 million in sponsorship JUST for Edwards with all of these sponsors. I'm not blaming sponsors for wanting to jump on a good thing but its not good for the sport for Edwards to have all of these sponsorships tied up and so many teams looking for anything they can get. 2-3 million from, say Scotts, could probably get them 10 races on some cars. Next year we are looking at more start and parkers in Cup with the possible dissolution of Red Bull and then the 6 car for Roush not having a sponsor now either.
I'm not trying to single out Edwards but look at how many former primary sponsors will all likely be sharing spots on his car next year.
