2012 Silly Season Discussion

Bottom line is NASCAR has peaked. It's never going to be as popular as it was.

As for the competition, the same guys are still going to win races regardless of who is on their car.

Maybe if the 6 wants to attract sponsors they can try winning?

I think he did win a race earlier this year...

I agree. Unless sponsorship falls in the lap of the 6 car than most likely he's done in cup for at least next year. That is unless he wants to settle for alot less equipment wise at a smaller team.

I'm no fan of Jimmy Johnson, but his 2012 paint schemes are legit.

Yeah, those cars look good. I like the navy blue better.

Honestly, I think they're boring. Navy blue/black with stripes looks good on old Camaros. It looks awful on the NASCAR franken-chevy.

Want a big - heard it here first - rumor?

How about Joe Gibbs possibly dumping Joey Logano due to pressure from Home Depot concerning the performance of that car. Who takes that ride? How about Matt Kenseth. Sure, Roush says he's committed to running Kenseth full time next year even without a primary sponsor. But, Kenseth's contract only runs through next year and a change of scenery and getting out of Carl's shadow may be enticing enough for a move by Kenseth.

What else will happen next year? Will Red Bull's Jay Frye get investors lined up and run those two cars? I highly doubt it and think that what happens here is that MWR buys the points of one of the two Red Bull cars to assure Bowyer gets into the first 5 shows next year.

Who drives the GoDaddy car for Stewart trying to keep it up in the points when Danica isn't in the car? I thought Mark Martin was a shoe in for that spot but he got the seat at MWR. My leading candidate would be David Reutimann since he has shown he can be a solid performer. Others I would think would at least have an outside shot at the partial schedule would be David Ragan or Landon Cassill.

Just a hunch or something you heard? Not sure kenseth wants to leave karls shadow to step into buschs. But with just a year left he might see the writing on the wall.

Any idea where Joey would end up? I have not been a huge fan of his.

It's honestly just a hunch - but a few years ago no one would have ever dreamed Mark Martin would have driven for someone other than The Cat in the Hat. Home Depot wanted Cousin Carl and so did Gibbs. Kenseth still has several good years left in him and I could see him welcoming a change of scenery.

I honestly think IF Joey got bounced at Gibbs he would land somewhere like Petty or Ganassi possibly - or even back to Nationwide for someone like Turner and try to build himself back to Cup level. They put that kid in a no win situation but they had no choice with Tony departing. And I honestly don't care for Logano that much but he was placed in a Cup car too soon. He's got the potential to be ruined like Casey Atwood, Jason Lefler, and Reed Sorenson.

Drivers I would like to see get a shot at a ride such as the #20 car: Regan Smith, does the most with the least, but his loyalty to Furniture Row Team may be too strong; Marcus Ambrose, has shown lately he can be competitive on ovals, but RPM is not JGR; Martin Truex, Jr, I honestly think he can win, but MWR is also not JGR; David Reutimman, ditto from Truex; Bobby Labonte, yeah I know, best years are behind him, but I would like to see him have one last chance in a competitive ride where he can go out on a high note. Others who might be able to be an improvement over Logano - Michael McDowell, Landon Cassil, Jason Lefler & Dave Blaney.

Sad part is that these days its just as much about "sell-abiity" as it is about "drive-ability". Would love to see Regan Smith get a shot in a car like the 20 car. I also don't think the Furniture Row guys wouldn't be mad if he did. They prob owe 80% of their success to him.

Does Stewart really want addington as his crew chief? Look at how many races kurt was fast for qualifying and at the start of a race but fizzled out. Not so sure of this move.

But not enough to satisfy his sponsor.
UPS was ready to bail anyway. Sent out a memo to some employees stating that they didn't feel like they were getting their monies worth out of NASCAR in general. Even citing that the announcers do not include sponors names during the broadcast as much as they use too. Going the partial sponsor route to see if things improve.

Not sure I understand firing Darian Grubb unless there is something behind the scenes. I could understand a little more if Tony did it before the chase when he was winless but he told him after winning the first two chase races.

Addington ofically announced as Stewart's crew chief. Not a good move in my opinion.
