And NS got more than the overall number 1.
@jimcallisMLB: No. 1 overall pick Mickey Moniak signs w/@Phillies for $6.1 mil (pick value = $9,015,000). California HS CF, plus bat/run/defense. @MLBDraft
I saw this morning that the Yankees signed their 2nd round pick for roughly $950,000. That would save them another $90,000 if that is true.
They saved a ton of money on their draft picks. I still can't believe Moniak at #1 for the Phils signed for $3 million under slot value. That's crazy! Does anybody know who Monaik's agent is?
Not sure who his agent is, but he negotiated a deal that made his client the #1 pick in the draft. Further, he signed for more money than he would have made if he had been paid if he had been given slot value for any pick after the 3rd overall pick in the draft.
Looks like the agent did a good job of negotiating a deal.......unless the kid was willing to forego the draft this year and go to college and wait 3 years to have a chance at that much money.
Oh no way he was going to turn down that kind of money just to go to college for 3 years. That's regardless of how much negotiating the agent did for him.
That's still a lot of money but I wonder if it's the lowest taken from that slot value since the MLB draft started? $3 million is a huge slot difference value than normally taken at that pick.
Looks like the teams have figured out that they can shop the top end picks before the draft to make sure they can sign the player before picking them. The difference in slot money between the first 3 picks vs every pick afterward is so great, it gives the teams a lot of leverage to get a player for much less than the slot bonus.
This was a perfect year for saving $ for organizations
There really was no really sure fire top 5 pick talent. Puk didn't take the $ and run with it and everyone else was very close in talent
That much in the 16th round? Braves must have saved some money up from a lot of other slots to give him 250k in the 16th round.
Sounds like the braves messed up their figures and have pulled back the offer. Sounds like he will end up at auburn unless they can talk their first round draft pick out of 150 k. Doubt very seriously that happens, I'm assuming they pretty much already had a predraft deal.
