D1 Baseball has been aggressively harsh with Tennessee at times this year. Their latest projections have us in Morgantown drawing the #6 national seed in WVU. Last week, BEFORE taking the Kentucky series, they had us going to #12 seed Coastal Carolina and were discussing how strong weekends against Kentucky and South Carolina could have us as a regional host. I'm not sure how you explain that one.

Agree. Kentucky was a 2 seed last week and now they're hosting after losing the series this past weekend. Doesn't make sense.

Kentucky finishes tied with Tennessee but Vols have tiebreaker
Cats lost 6 SEC
They have a higher RPI but every other metric favors Tennessee

Florida, LSU, Arkansas and Wake Forest are locks as national seeds.

I would vote Virginia, Vandy, Stanford and Clemson for the other 4 as of today.

I woud have Tennessee hosting over Alabama or Auburn. The reality is (and i don't think it should come down to this), but it's these teams that the SEC tourney will matter the most for.

From D1

‘• Some teams we will be watching this week from a top eight seed standpoint include Oklahoma State, Kentucky, Coastal Carolina, and Miami. There’s also a chance that some teams like Kentucky, Alabama, Auburn, Tennessee, Duke, West Virginia, Texas, and East Carolina hop into the mix with strong showings at their respective conference tournaments. In essence, that No. 8 spot is wide open if the Cavaliers don’t play well in the ACC tournament.’

Ok State, Texas and WV all finished 15-9 atop the Big 12. What makes OSU a lock for national seed and the others not. Doesn't make much sense to me.

Not a lock. They said UVA is likely the 8th seed unless they have a poor tourney performance. The teams listed here have a shot if VA falters.

This seems to suggest a lock to me.

ETA....
Nope.... I read it wrong. You're right.

I struggle to think there is a realistic path for us to get a Top 8 seed. Even if we win the entire tournament, I still think we’d max out at the 10-seed line.

Still, the funniest part of this entire debate is Kentucky being in the conversation. They’ve lost 6 of their 10 SEC series and 6 out of their last 7 to end the season. That #1 RPI is fool’s gold. They really aren’t that great.

Yeah, I was surprised to see the Vols mentioned.

And KY still being so highly regarded is still a joke.

I think people sometimes put too much weight into numbers. Numbers can be flawed sometimes. Just looking at the RPI and telling yourself that Kentucky deserves a Top 8 seed is a joke. The rest of their metrics on their resume do not support them being one of the 8 best teams in the country, maybe not even one of the 16 best. Their entire resume is propped up by their #1 RPI which is coming from a formula that can be flawed.

Here is the latest projections from the D1 baseball nerdcast. Vols just outside the top 16. Cited the road record as a major blemish. Still can play our way in.

1 Wake
2 Florida
3 Arkansas
4 LSU
5 Stanford
6 Clemson
7 Vandy
8 Virginia
9 Kentucky
10 Coastal
11 Miami
12 Auburn
13 Oklahoma State
14 Alabama
15 Boston College
16 Texas
