2024 Official Seed List Watch Party Thread

Agree - we will be playing in Charlotte if we’re a 2-seed. The biggest difference in being a #1 vs a #2 is the 1-seeds get to select their site for the first weekend. If it happens, it would be interesting to see if CRB would choose Charlotte or Memphis. Overall, I think I’d rather end up as the #2 in the South because it would put us closer to home for the regionals.
Well it's not so much that the 1 seeds get to select and the 2 seeds don't. They go down the S-curve and assign 1st round location based on proximity, and once a 1st round site has been assigned to 2 different teams that location is taken off the board. As long as 2 different teams don't get assigned to Charlotte before us, regardless of what seed we are (UNC and Duke, for example), then I think we'll be in Charlotte as it's closer than Memphis.

This I agree with. I’d rather face Arizona as our 2-seed out West with fewer TN fans then Purdue in the Midwest with more TN fans.
Yeah I think the biggest advantage of being a 1 seed is that you get to avoid the other one seeds of the likes of UCONN, Purdue, and Houston.

Exactly. My point was if we are a #1 seed, they will ask us where we want to play the first weekend. After the 1-seeds are slotted, they go down the S-curve and assign in order unless there is something that violates the bracketing principles and they have to adjust accordingly.

As a 2 seed, it is only ONE game difference ... AT BEST to seeing THE first 1 seed, if that even happens!
Last year, there were no #1 seeds in the final four ... in fact there were NO #1 seeds in the Elite Eight, and there were only 2 #1 seeds in the Sweet Sixteen!
LAST YEAR, who made it into the final four: 1 - 4 seed, 2 - 5 seeds, and 1 - 9 seed.

We are gonna get where we want if we’re a 2 seed as well simply because of the geographical location of the other 1’s and 2’s

There are a million projections out there, but saw one this afternoon that had Providence as the 10-seed in our region with us as a 2-seed. A Barnes vs. English 2nd round matchup would certainly be interesting.

Not sure how I’d feel about it though. Devin Carter is a stud and so is Josh Oduro. I think we’d have the guard play to win, but I could see that being a tough game.

I just do not see us getting into the 1 seed, even if we were to win the next five games. (Personally) I would rather us go into the tournament as a well respected #2 seed, than a history making moment beating a #1 seed.

Assuming you meant 2 seed?

Huh? "What you talking about Willis?" Tennessee a 10 seed ...????

Yes - I was referring more to the regionals. We will 100% be in Charlotte or Memphis the first weekend, but I would much rather be the #2 in the South Region and get to play in Dallas the second weekend as opposed to being the #1 out West and advancing to play in Los Angeles.

I wouldn’t…I don’t think anymore Vol fans will be in Dallas vs. LA, and if distance is your thought process then Detroit is closer Dallas.

More of our “natural” region, which is how the committee views it. I bet we would have a lot of Middle & West TN folks make the trip. Easy drive from Memphis and direct flights from Nashville.

This logic is why I'm thinking/hoping the Vols go to Memphis round one. Closer for fans in the other two Grand Divisions and if Duke/UNC continue to play well I would imagine that the powers that be would love to see them both in Charlotte for the media coverage/hype.

I would rather get a 2-seed than drop a game at home to Auburn or Kentucky. No thanks.
Not disagreeing there. That said, a chance to win the league outright, and going 4-1 down the stretch, could include this exact same scenario. I'd personally take a home loss over either UK or AU if it meant we were regular season champs.

You have to play a good team in the second round no matter how you slice it. Why not Providence? Michigan St as a projected 7 in a bracket I saw today is the one that scares me. It's play your A game or go home at that point. You might get away with a B game as a one or two seed but not against an Izzo type coach.

Houston @ Baylor
Washington
@ Arizona
West Virginia @ Iowa State
Alabama @ Kentucky
Texas
@ Kansas
Duke @ Wake Forest
Iowa @ Illinois
South Carolina @ Ole Miss
North Carolina @ Virginia
Auburn @ Georgia
Villanova
@ UConn

Tons of games today with a chance to get some help for our floor and ceiling. Would be huge if Virginia, Wake Forest, and Kentucky can win.

Obviously most important result is a TN W though. Gotta have it.

Think it depends. Houston winning helps our floor, because Baylor who is fighting for a 2-seed would have another loss. But if Baylor wins you give yourself an outside shot at Houston, if they lose another game or two after it, falling off the 1-seed line.

Pick your poison.
